Icelandic Chickens

Whew what a beautiful day we had. cool nights warm days.... flew into San Antonio to buy stock, flew back, tired but happy and released a pair of my Icies to run free for the first time! They roosted succesfully all on their own! Sooooo hope you all have a peaceful nights sleep and a great tomorrow!

Mary, I haven't candled them, and yes, they are under broodies. I noticed yesterday that the buff one kicked a couple out from under her, and I don't know how long they were out, but i put them back under her and they are still there. The other two are being really good about staying on them. I did notice though that the nest the black one in the middle was sitting on had gotten wet when it rained last, does the eggs getting wet hurt them? I wasn't sure, but it's too late to worry about I guess. Should I sneak the eggs out from under them and candle?

And, like mahroni said, we love you.

Wow, all my little fuzzies are turning into half-feathered "bad-hair-days". They all look a little disheveled but are still cute, cute, cute! I am anxiously awaiting the next batch to hatch

I try to candle them even under broodies because I worry about exploding eggs. I worry about global warming and cell phone radiation too, go figure. I usually grab a basket when I see the broody off the nest and I run out and grab the eggs and do a quick candle on them. I go in my walk in pantry and close the door. It is pitch dark even during the day. I close the coop door so the broody can't get back in until I have returned the eggs to the nest. I have a broody on three Icelandic eggs down at the barn coop. I will candle those in a few days. I lift her up several times a day and check for contraband. She stole the 3 she has now from Mahonri's Easter shipment.

I got very good news today. I finally heard from Sigrid and Sveinn through their daughter. "They are happy and well, nothing is wrong, and she told me that she was delighted with your enthusiasm for the chickens."

They are just very busy retirees behind on answering emails. I am so relieved. I was worried that something was wrong. They are very special people to me. I'll stop bugging them now!
