Icelandic Chickens

Have a safe trip, at least the roads were much dryer today. I get to make that trip right before Easter if all goes as planned. (My trip will be slightly shorter than yours coming from ER

Mary, in your top picture only 4 and 5 (from the left) look like boys. The rest look like girls. So your roo/pullet ratio is improving!

Can't see the comb on #2 though - with the same coloring as #4, it may be a boy too.

Guess what I might be getting?............................an incubator!! Me, who said I didn't want one, that I'd use my broodies...........I've been caught up in the Icelandic vortex of "A FEW IS NOT ENOUGH!!" At our local Purina Poultry Workshop on Tuesday, a gentleman came up to me afterward and asked if I would be interested in a couple of incubators he had. I said possibably....what kind....he said 400 egg Sears Cabinets.

I came home and did some research and called him to ask some questions. He said he'd plug them in since he hadn't used them in 3 years. He called this morning and said he's had them on since Friday morning and they are holding temps, do I want to come take a look.........so apc (a BYCer who lives down the road a couple of miles from me) and I will be going today to look at them. apc was going to put my Easter Hatch eggs in her current bator but I may be putting my eggs in my own........but I may be a few hours behind everyone else...........who cares.......Icelandics are early hatchers anyway, right!!!!!!!!!!!

And so it begins, the slippery slope into total hatching addiction.

Welcome, we've been waiting for you.

DS got some good pics of Vindur today... just waiting for him to give me the card. Some neighbors to the south were having troubles with coyotes and their pea fowl scattered. We have one of their gorgeous India Blue Cocks in our back yard so DS took pics of it also.

Crested for Kathy. Here's the girl. She has a cute personality. Very nosey.

Closeup of colors. Nice crest. Think Rod Stewart.
