tomorrow it gets door framing and roof joists

Wow, yesterday was quite the busy day! I'm finally able to show you pics of Chickie Mama's brood!! I put 11 Icelandic and 3 Auburn Java eggs under her on the evening of March 11. Hatching started Thursday, March 31, and Saturday, April 2, she brought them to the feed dish in the morning when I brought treats out. I know one Icelandic egg didn't hatch, it was still in the nest, but there are 11 chicks!!! At least 8 of them are Icelandics. There are two dark ones that are very similiar, I think those are definitely AJs, time will tell. I put a red heat lamp at the front of the broody box to help keep them from being chilled (still cold here in the mornings) so the color may be a bit off. There are ten showing in each pic, couldn't get one with all 11!!

I got the incubator, pic will be on the Easter Hatch thread!!!!!!!!!!!!

they are soooo cute!

I played musical chickens today to make a nice spot for my resident broody, aptly named Momma.
She has her own little coop and run - going to put 2 or 3 of the eggs from kathy under her and see how it goes

in other news - construction of the icelandic coop is on hold till I get a 2nd person to help me put the rood joists up and install the door framing. Can't really do that part alone. Once that is done it's all downhill to get it finished!

Michael and I were both witnesses to the event. She even laid it in the nest box! I made him come in to see how cute it was to see her trying out the nest box and she stood up and out it came! Cute little white torpedo egg! S.C.O.R.E!

She is a good girl laying in the nest! PERFECT! Hooray for Snow! Yup, that will be her name. Did you know there are 100 Icelandic words meaning, "snow?" One of them happens to be ....... SNOW ! ! !
