Icelandic Chickens

The bad news is your cockerel can't mount a hen to save his life!

Well, down here in Missouri they offer classes for that. Once a week is obedience training for dogs, and once a week is mating training for young cockerels. I will go ahead and sign him up for classes. There is usually a long waiting list, ya know.

Maybe you could send those cockerels my way if you think my muscovies could teach them, cuz I think there is about a dozen drakes out here and almost every time you look out the window one of them is busy, lol!!!

We had guests over on Friday afternoon, and at one point their 10 year old son looked out of the French doors to the backyard and exclaimed, "Whoa, that big chicken just sat on that other chicken!"

I almost forgot the best part......and then my just-turned 6 year old daughter said casually, "Yeah, he does that all the time".

I'm in trouble now - the further enabling of Mary.

I'm taking her a brooder tomorrow for her Icelandic coop. I bought it off Craigslist, then found out it wouldn't fit through my door opening of my new coop. And after how long it took me to build the darn coop, I wasn't dismantling the door to get it in.

So now it will be Mary's, for her broody Icelandic girl. (not Lukka) I'm sure it will be well loved by the Icelandic girls!

Not a minute too soon either Kelly. I had to take that surviving egg back down to Cara because I found crazy Skye off the nest, chasing Blind Lucy and Ginger the Gimp around the yard! I think Skye needs her broody broken in a wire crate. Or, I could sneak her in the shipping container with Kathy's Icelandics!
