Actually we did the Pullet Polka while unwrapping the eggs so I'm pretty sure that about 80% are going to be girls...

You get 80% pullets and Mary is gonna want them back!

Hey, sometimes she wants them back even when you don't know the gender!

Y'all are mean. I am 90% finished on a three-hole front roll-out nest box I made for a neighbor. I should finish it tomorrow. It weighs about a quarter ton, has about a thousand screws in it, and a pint of Gorilla Wood Glue. Made to last! I bartered for lessons in mini farming. Also, she has a poor girl that has been broody for weeks but she has no roos and has never hatched. Guess who has five Icelandic eggs tonight?

We aren't going to put them under the girl until the new nest box is in tomorrow. This may be a steep learning curve. She asked me if the Mom would give the baby water or did she need a waterer?

Hi Nikki!

Look at this most gorgeous little rooster. He is still growing, and his colors are sooooooooo beautiful!
Not the best picture, as he had just been preening when I caught up to him, and then he was offffffff!

Okay, I've officially been initiated! I lost an Icelandic tonight.

I searched EVERYWHERE and could not find Briet (the dark one). I was completely in a panic, counted the babies 3 times and came up short. Looked up in the rafters, on top of the storage area, in the nest boxes, in a void beside the nest box, in the run, outside the run, and NOTHING! At last I looked on top of the nest boxes in a 2 gallon container that I kept scratch in (but was now empty) and the silly girl was inside. She somehow managed to get inside and flip the lid on top of her. She was laying down like nothing was wrong, and I was in a complete meltdown thinking I lost an Icelandic girl! She's now reunited with her buddies. (huge PHEW)

I was working in the barn today and an Icelandic pullet wandered in looking for a place to lay an egg. She first tried laying it in a roll of electric poultry fencing. That didn't work so she got up on top of Michael's guitar themed barstool with a slick surface. That was a disaster as well. She finally settled in a paint roller tray on top of a shelf. She was getting into position when the tray suddenly fell over sideways trapping her between the workbench and the wall. I pulled her out and spent the next ten minutes chasing her around the barn before I got her out of there. What a nut job.

Then tonight Michael and I went down to close up the barn and found one of the juvenile roos mating a girl in the back of the Polaris. When we checked the coop we found Lukka sitting on her baby and one of the roos from the New Year's Hatch!

Good grief.
