Icelandic Chickens

Well the better get with the photo session thing because I am not stopping!

I was able to get close enough to Lukka's baby today without a telephoto lens to take some pictures.

Looks like the baby is in charge!

Well, I succumbed to the pressure... and candled the Icelandics from Mary... I'm afraid that the awesome packing job was still thrown around by the PO.. I've never seen such screwed up air cells in my life!! There are 4 eggs that are developing and look great.. 6 that seem to be developing but have messed up and/or multiple air cells so I don't know how likely they are to make it.. 3 that were maybes.. 3 blood rings and 8 totally scrambled that didn't do a thing...

Still nothing on the box from Kathy.. Wouldn't that be something if they finally show up and all develop?? One can hope right??

Shipping eggs sucks! Laree, maybe I should walk to Phoenix with yours. I would probably get there sooner and the eggs would stand a better chance!

Well, it IS Mother's Day, ya know. I think she was leading her mama to a nice dinner.

Good morning All

And now there are five! and one pipping.

One of them looked golden when hatched but now dried off its a light silvery or wheaten, really hoping its a Lukka Color, the other is dark, with white feathers here and there and a white chest, dont know what it is but its pretty, and they are barely half the size of the 3 amigos. Still chipmunks but the colors arre diffusing, two dark and one light. Quite a range on the five in color.I hadnt realized how much the first ones have grown til these little guys came.

For sure on the coon proofing, it has to be, they are thick as fleas on a southern hound around here.

of the 6 eggs I got, 2 never developed, so I had 4, just put them on lockdown and the looked good ( I guess)
3 were almost all dark inside and 1 was a late quitter

I have 13 that I set on the 3rd and candled for the 1st time today. have 10 that look good & 3 that don't but maybe they are just late bloomers

is there a better way for us to read accurate temps? I have a digital that does temp & humidity but it never agreed with 2 stand mercury thermometers. would love something reliable for the next hatch.

Jake - sending good hatch karma your way!!!

Daria,

You are doing great! Those few will be a perfect start! And thanks for all you are doing for Icelandic Preservation!

Mary what color is Lukka?

I have seen several different pics of her, inside and outside, is she a blue ? Blue wheaten ???

What ever she is purty.

I have the one new baby I am going to call a wheaten til I know better.

I candled last night, and tossed 10 eggs.

2 pullet eggs, no development.
2 extreme scrambling evident
1 detached air cell
2 blood rings
3 yolkers/no development

The others seem healthy and chugging along! So I still have 16 out of 26? Not too bad!
