Icelandic Chickens

Lots of people swear by them...so pretty good.

They seem to go on ebay pretty fast for well over $100 depending on the model. I am holding out for a Brinsea Octagon Advance EX

Don't waste your money, get a Dickey or a Hovabator instead.

I believed the BYC reviews, too, only to be very unhappy with mine. I am glad others like theirs, but I hate them. I hate unscrewing every single dang screw to clean the top where the heating element is. It fills up with down with every hatch, and I don't even hatch in them! I only use them as "recovery rooms," to dry and fluff the chicks. I thoroughly clean my incubators every week with every hatch. Those are the WORST things to clean! That is only ONE of my complaints.

Kathy,

Heres a little trick I use, I use canned air, you buy it at a home office supply store, its for cleaning computers, it totally cleans every nook and cranny as long as its dry! Its simple, safe, and effective! I hope that helps!

OH MY GOSH! I did not even think of that! YES, that might work! I will sure try it! Thanks, Andy!

I would agree--but I bought the smaller Brinsea to keep myself in check. I have hatched what....300 eggs this year? All in that little Brinsea and the Reptipro. Imagine if I had a Sportsman.

THE HORRORS!!!

Oh you are cruel!

Ok, what is the joke??

Why????

Do you know how hard it is to take pictures with a demanding Delaware pullet on your shoulder? I cannot go in the run or coop without this one pulling on my pantleg begging for attention. She even won over my youngest son today by pulling on his pants demanding attention!

If I put them in the same brooder I have to wait a couple weeks to see who is who!

Hillbilly that is a very nice coop and run. Bring it on up here.

If, I was going to buy another incubator it would be either the Dickey or GQF cabinet one.

Anyone buying a Hovabator get the one with the fan, and also get an egg turner, it saves opening it to turn the eggs and the fan keeps the temp constant throughout the bator. All things considered I'd prefer the cabinet one or a Dickey, well worth the extra cost, saving by buying the cheaper model gets results that are cheaper. Go with the quality.

I know many people swear by their Brinseas, but I also know of many people that swear at theirs. They have lost some VERY expensive eggs in them.
