Icelandic Chickens

Well, of the 3 Amigos, I am betting the one with the crest and the attitude is a roo, his tail feathers are pointing up like a roos
and he definitely has an attitude,

he is the dominant one of the six, and a major flyer too, just for the fun of it

, the other two chipmunks tails are flatter and point down, one is quite friendly , likes her head and neck stroked. Just like a girl. I hear tell.

The roo is the first one that I called Speedy, it still fits, he is getting two dark splash marks on his chest, the other two are devloping attractive barring across the wings and backs, of the 3 little ones still have the one white with a bit of color here and there, a dark chipmunk and the black with white splash on the chest and several white primaries . Otherwise its quite dark, six little beauties, possibly the prettiest Icelandic chicks ever !!

A LOT of diversity !

Speaking of attitude, Mary is going to be sending me some chicks around the first, and says she can include two 3 month olds, a roo and a pullet !! If I want !! Do I want to breathe ????!!! They will get max TLC, but I cant really believe she is willing to rehome these two ! They are gorgeous, both crested and the Roo obviously her prettiest of all her Roos ! Blue even! Maybe a grandson of Lukka ! The pullet is crested, and boy does she have attitude !! So, the Levi hacienda may well have eggs in August ! It is also going to have a gorgeous flock of Icelandics ! Mary you are a major Jewel !

The six merry minstrels also love fresh glass, a small handful, clipped with the kitchen shears to 1/2' pieces, they pounce on it, eat a bit and scatter the rest with their scratching, fun to watch ! Just like the big guys !

So nuff, walking on clouds today thinking of the newbies coming ! Plus all the new little guys ! They will get their totes while the others get to enjoy the remodled chicken house. It will hold 25 chickens plus a ten by twenty covered outside run, for a starter. Its going to be a great summer !

2 DAYS ago it was sunny and in the 80's - Today? It's snowing.

I'm so tired of this. And the Amgen bike ride starts today from Tahoe - hope they like biking through a few feet of snow!

Jake........hard to say, do you have a picture? Both my pullets have tails that stick straight out, but when I was at Mary's, the young roosters tails stuck straight out too. So I'm not sure if it means anything at this point.

On the pair you are getting from Mary, the girl is a twin to my Briet, just smaller. And the blue male is STUNNING! I told her if I was in need of a roo, I would take him - but I hatched 13 barnevelders and 9 of them are roosters! (I'll have a good choice for my keeper roo that's for sure!)

OMG Kelly I was wondering if it was snowing at your place! This weather is so ridiculous. Looks like we are stuck with it till Wednesday. I am so glad we moved the goats and emus or they would have spent the time under the deck pooping it up! I'll just leave their doors open today and they can wander in and out as weather permits.

I am sending the lighter blue boy to Jake instead of the darker one with the straight comb. He's prettier anyway and the rosecomb with do better in cold weather.

I also think this guy is stunning. The orange/copper is so bright on this guy. Maybe I'll keep him. But, I have too many roosters already.

I'm hoping to see some more little blues from him. Maybe from my little light one.

Kelly I know they can change appearance from day to day, but he has had an attitude since he pipped ! The other two chipmunks carry their tails either down or straight back, his is either straight back or sticking up at 45 degrees. We shall see for certain. He is looking more and more like he has a crest coming in too.

These may be the most watched chicks in America !!

So whats Icelandic for Blue?

Somewhere I have bookmarked an Icelandic dictionary. Gotta find it !

Gotta get a name for the girl friend too, the chicks here are pretty much naming themselves, Speedy, etc. but if I find some Icelandic names that work I will go with them.

I guess that I should get 'Egils Saga' out and look for the favorites. Some good ones there. Egils Saga is a fascinating read, its available from Amazon.com .

From what I hear from home it sounds like one brown and yellow icelandic has hatched!
