Icelandic Chickens

Yes, haven't seen a pea combed Icelandic yet!

Combs on 2 week old chicks are hard to call, if its not a pea it will be rose. The week older ones are pretty easy to call. Most are rose.

The 3 week old ones that were all chipmunks and look alike are only alike now in being dark, each one has a different color pattern. The three younger ones are all different, a white, a black with white chest, and a chipmunk with a very dark brown stripe down its back.

Good morning All

We are having a very nice early April morn, for late May, wet, drizzly and low 40s. I want to move the chicks into the chicken house next week but if so I will have to put the heat lamp out there too. Still, the trees are leafing out, grass is growing, and it looks like spring anyhow.

The chick I thought could be a pea comb now shows a tiny little point on the upper edge, so another rose comb, most are those so far. They are feathering out fast now, even the little guys, Skjotur is still the fast one, dominant little roo with a crest and developing a cape.

Mary so sorry for your loss

I'm sorry I haven't been on thread ooing and awing all over these gorgeous birds, I've just been dealing with a lot of other stuff. I thought I'd post this here, in case any of you can help...

Most of you know that my best friend is suffering from Cancer. They now have found a blood clot and is on bedrest hoping that it will dissolve instead of going to her brain or heart. I've been with her most of the time.

I really need my friends help on this thread. She has a wonderful, sweet, sweet sweet lovable chocolate labrador that she just can't take care of anymore. I already have 2 labs and can't take him. If anyone knows of a loving caring family that can take him for free, please let me know.

Max was a rescue and came to live with Sharon 3 years ago. We estimate his age to be about 6 years, he has just recently had all of his shots. He seems a bit lean to me but with a family that can take care of him properly, I'm sure he'll fatten up in no time!

Max is really the sweetest dog. He loves being with people. Very sweet with kids of all ages. Just a gentle soul. We are looking for a new home ASAP. Here are some pictures of Max and the coop/run that I built at her house. I'm taking care of the chickens daily, they really bring Sharon so much joy.

Same here, he deserves a good home.

I posted earlier about leg feathering , none on mine, but I would like some, how often is it seen in your chicks? I have seen a couple pics here of chicks with feathered shanks. It is a trait that I would like to have in mine.

My first batch of chicks from Mary had one with feathered shanks. He'll be miserable here.
