Icelandic Chickens

Well, I am going to be wanting to add some to the flock here, thats a gene that can be very advantages here, so far I have none but would like to add 3-4 before winter. I am really surprised that there arnt more in the breed.

Very willing to swap for or buy outright any feathered shanked ones. I have 4 chipmunks, one white and one black with white chest, it had some white wing feathers early on but now none. Of the chipmunks one has a dark crest, two with light colored heads and one darker and all have dark on their chests in two long stripes down their sides. The chipmunk with the crest is also developing a very nice cape.

I am thinking that the crests/topknots could also be a positive for winter weather, just creating a warm spot on the head. We'll see.

Well my wild broody hatched those gorgeous blue eggs!!

Woah Jake! Hold on man, I just candled your eggs and out of 32 in incubator, 32 are viable! They go into lockdown tomorrow! I know they won't all hatch but the fertility rate was unbelievable! My adult shipping box arrived today so I am good to ship on Tuesday. Kelly is loaning me her incubator tomorrow so I have somewhere for these guys to hatch. They are still stacked in the Brinsea that holds 22! I hope I get lots of babies to send you!

And Shawn, I have 34 eggs still viable in the other incubator for you!

And I have 86 eggs sitting on the shelf with no where to go. I am getting between 12 and 16 per day!

Now on truly ridiculous note, I went down to the barn coop a few nights ago to check on everyone. Lukka was sitting on her baby but they looked kinda tall. Next morning I found out why. As a pair, they were sitting on a clutch of 12 eggs! And he is a boy!

Okay, Jake, went out and got some pics of the teens, "week before"s and Easter Hatchalongs. The sire of all these chicks is Ari (from The Warden from her first Icelandics from Sigrid). He showed some signs of feathering on his shanks as a youngster but no feathering on his shanks as a year old rooster.

This pic was taken Feb 2, 2011, you can see the snow on the ground:

Check the travel from my zip 61310 and maybe we can meet somewhere in between this summer and you can take some off my hands!!

This is a cockerel from the "week before" hatch, the gray is a pullet (?) from the Easter Hatchalong, his legs to the left:

Mary, there just isn't a smiley to show how I feel about that!!!!! I will have the nella brooder finished in time for however many you can send.. I would have had it finished this week already but got a little distracted with my own little "chick" hatching!!!
The two that hatched from the eggs you sent are soo fun... the blonde one is almost pure white.. can't wait to see how it feathers out!! These are better than a box of Gump Chocolates!!
