Icelandic Chickens

Me too, Michelle! I have also tried the hanging feeders..... still half is wasted. I wish I knew a way to eliminate waste! I have some of those long trays, and I was thinking about putting them behind (or outside of) the fence. Then, they would have to reach through the wire to eat. I have got to try something, because the waste is ridiculous here!

Hi, I took the hanging feeders and drilled an extra hole in the three places that they hang from for adjustment therefore making it harder to get the feed out walaa, really cut down on the wasted feed, I have five of the metal hanging feeders and I did it to all 5, I don't have a solution yet for the longer feeders except I have put them up on 2x4 blocks, so that the chicks have to reach up and in to get to the feed, not as easy to wallow the feed out. JUst hope it might help you, My nine survivors from Kathy are outside in the growout pen along with their big brother from Mary, whom has turned from chocolate to almost blue and he does have a crest, noat sure about sex on the ones from Kathy, but the black one stayed almost pure black, think the buff colored chick is the most multi-colored of all.

Mary when were Blau and the Contessa hatched?

She is THE dominant pullet for sure, queen of all she surveys, he is much more live and let live.

The new little guys are feathering out like they invented the idea. Incredible colors on them.

Well, we are going to see if Vindur is doing his job. I got a 2nd Icelandic egg today and sent it with other eggs to be incubated by skacres (Scott) in Marana, AZ. I also sent a question mark chick with him. He may have a pullet or a roo, guess we'll have to see, but it was a color I wasn't fond of.. kind of brown with silver hackles. I'm going to have him build me an incubator... His homemade one (Like a sportsman) is working real good.

February 7th for Blau and Feb 22nd for The Contessa. It is possible she hatched out on the 7th too but I think she was in that second group. I am almost positive.

Until yesterday, yes. Here she is locked down in the covered run. Her wandering days are over. Sad but necessary!
