Icelandic Chickens

The other 2 weak ones ended up not making it this afternoon.. I was really hopeful they were going to make it as they had perked up but it was not to be.. Hopefully the 14 that are left will continue to do fine..

Thanks again Mary!!

Shawn I am sorry that you lost any, but as slow as they were getting to you its a big plus to their stamina that far more wernt lost.

Mine from Mary's shipment before are all doing great, I divided them into two groups and they seem more outgoing now, its amazing how fast the littlist ones are, little buzzbombs. At just over a week and a half old its fascinating to see them all feathering out. The little silver one is still all siver and a black one is still all black, have two blondes that are not showing any dark yet, the other blondes are showing little spots here or there, it looks like there are going to be a lot of splash ones. And a half dozen chipmunks. Another BIG box of Gumps chocolates, with some white chocolate thrown in.

Life is good, and better with Icelandics

Let me check things out here tomorrow, and for the next few days...... God only knows for how long those girls are gonna be hatching.

BTW Kathy... My 12 year old asked me today after we had gotten the Icelandics settled if we were still getting some silkie chicks that they could pick pets from... Maybe I'll just send him to your house for the summer...

He's a hard worker.. come to think of it... I can't let him go.. who would mow my lawn if he was gone???

That makes me so sad Shawn. I was hoping the Gro-Gel would help and that they would make it in one day. Makes me reluctant to try shipping day-olds again. I am sorry.

It's not your fault Mary. Who would have thought it would be 2 full days to get chicks a couple states away. I'm sorry you lost them Shawn. I wish you luck with the rest.

Mary, I don't think it is your fault at all... I think the Gro-gel did help as it was all gone. I am pretty sure that had I gotten a phone call first thing this morning to come pick them up at the PO instead of them going out on the truck etc nightmare... everything would have been just fine.. I will be talking to the PO again Monday morning to let them know the outcome of their little escapade and complain again.. I still can't believe that they sent chicks out in a mail truck for delivery.. If I hadn't gone in to the PO and made them track them down, I wouldn't have gotten them until almost 3:00.. Our mail usually comes between 2 and 3.. I sure haven't had the best of luck with the Post Office when it comes to Icelandics have I??? The eggs from Mary were scrambled, the eggs from Kathy still haven't shown up and today they put my chicks out on a truck for 1/2 the morning... It must be a conspiracy............ Well we'll show them.. LOL I have the beginnings of a beautiful flock of Icelandics... We are hopefully only a couple of weeks away from being able to start enclosing about an acre of land for their run and we'll let every broody we get next spring raise Icelandics...

Thanks to both Kathy and Mary for your efforts in helping me and everyone else get our start with this incredible breed!!
