Mary, I do think it's neurological in nature. The last chick I had whose wings grew, but the baby did not, was a Speckled Sussex from Ideal. She died at about two weeks old, just never thrived, sadly. Her wings got huge, but her body was very short and never got any larger.

Mary I had a rooster one that made lots of circles. He was fine other than that. He got to where the only time he did it really badly was when he was nervous or anxious.

Kathy, not sure if you culled her yet, but is she interested in chicks? If you give her a chick do you think she will pull through?

Had a sad morning. "Goliath", my Light Sussex pullet was killed by Vindur and the two girls. They did great together for three days and then I woke up to her dead on the pen floor.

It's been a sad day for me. I've learned some lessons... the hard way.

Thanks Kathy for the comforting PM. You guys are all the best.

Mahonri I am so sorry. I have had Icelandics with all ages of chicks and juveniles with nothing more than a light peck to let them know their place. Are you sure that is what happened?

I can say I know how you feel because bad decisions on my part have caused harm and death to my beloved creatures recently too. I certainly know what you mean about learning the hard way. But the good news is that with every misstep we learn what not to do next time. Grieve for your little Goliath and move on to take good care of the others. I have been warned time and again if you have livestock you will eventually have deadstock. It is the circle of life.
