Icelandic Chickens

OK, rock work in the yard was ( all day i faced the Barron waste without a taste of water, cool water ) dusk and tumble weed blowing across the yard.

I am on my "shakedown cruise" with my new Dickey...So far I love it.
I ordered the electronic thermostat, it comes with a wafer that kicks in
if for some reason the electronic fails. The thermo/hydro that comes with
it was spot on when calibrated. I have done well with my hovas keeping
humidity between 45-50 with all vents open and am able to do the same with the
Dickey by full opening the back vents and keeping the supplied humidity tray topped off.
I got the 2x2 as I prefer large hatchings of the same age as opposed to staggered hatches.
Temps are holding very steady..99.5-100.00. I set it for 99.8. I have had 2 major power outages and temps fell
to 83 after 3+ hours...after candling I still have 110 out of 138 going strong towards lockdown
this weekend.

I am still trying to figure out how to separate eggs in this. I have been using suet baskets
in the Hovas to separate and Id. The hatching trays in the Dickey are not tall enough with the lids...
When I go into lockdown I will hopefully have enough baskets for my separations that I can
leave the lids off...I will fire up the Hovas just in case and it would be interesting to compare
hatch rates from both.

It is nicer to have this in my kitchen rather than 3 Hovas underfoot

Mahonri...when you need customer service or questions answered you pick up the
phone and talk to Mr. Dickey himself. He has always promptly responded to my emails.

Do the Dickeys use a wafer thermosat? I hate those!

I believe they come with an electronic thermostat.

But that's the reason I bought the Brinsea. It worked great for the first two hatches, then after that it lost it's ability to keep temp correct... I've cleaned it, yada, yada, yada... what a waste of money.

I thought you were done hatching until January.
