I'll be picking up an Icelandic chick, hatched from my eggs tomorrow and I'll be putting it either under a Marans or an Ameraucana. I think I'll put her under the Ameraucana since she is older, the Maran turned 6 months on the 1st and the Ameraucana is from my Easter Hatch last year. I'm getting 9 chicks so one will get 5 and one will get 4.

Dar, I'm almost positive Puffy is a boy

a very beautiful boy, even in this gangly, half down-half feather stage so he will not be staying at Not A Farm. I hope I can find him a great home. Good luck with grafting the chicks......broody raised is sooooooooo much easier!!

Other Mary.........Good luck with the babies!!!!

I hope it works!

Congrats Mahonri - Hope all goes well with sticking them under the broodies.

And Kathy.......Brrrrr, that's cold for summer weather. And the summer daylight hours would mess me up!

How does it work at your house?

I have no idea what time it gets dark here this time of year, I'm not up that late. it's still light at midnight and it's light at 5 am when I get up, but the Icelandics all take themselves to roost about 8:45pm, sometimes 9-ish. The other breeds are still up muckin about, having to be herded into the coop, but the Icelandics and their turkeys all on their roost waiting to have their beaks counted so they can be tucked in for the night.

Anybody else have similar behavior?

Morning all!

I hope everyone is doing well.

Today I am kicking around priming/painting the hallway. Someone talk me out of it, please.

Our sunrise is around 6AM, sunset around 845PM.
I have several different pens, grouped according to age. The first to go in are the layers and adults, the last to go in are the "teenagers" growing out. Most of the young chicks need herded in, though a few go in on their own.
