Lost two more chicks last night. I'm thinking it's an owl as I scared one that looked like it wanted to attack the Icelandics up in the high grape vines the other night. Lost another Ameraucana and then one of the TJ's roos ended up at the bottom of the pool last night.
Guess I should have just left all of them in the Laree brooder.
I have four broodies! I want to move them all up to the layer yard tonight and transfer the eggs from the incubator to them and put theirs in the incubator. I can handle a staggered hatch better than they can. There are only four or five viable eggs if that, under the hens due to them playing musical nestboxes.
I plan to put one in the little coop the ducks were in, two in the small coop, one inside the upper coop section, and another below in the predator-proof run section. I'll leave Skye in the layer coop where she is. When the eggs hatch in 12 days I will send Lukka and her babies packing, back down to the Icelandic coop. The prblem is I put sand in the small coop and with a wire bottom on it the sand got caked with poo and became cement and I couldn't clean it out. Michael volunteered to get in there and clean it out for me. We tipped the heavy sucker over to dump the junk to the front side then set it back down. He climbed in and went to work! He is sitting cross-legged on the boards that support the pull out drawer for the upper coop! Martha is in there with him working the ground floor! When he finished the top level he crawled in an cleaned out the bottom one! I may have to fix him a nice dinner tonight. Nah!
