Jake, A while back, you mentioned you had a "unicorn Icelandic" and I posted a pic of Asta's comb showing her unicorn look. Take a look at this cockerel (I believe Asta's son by Ari) that was part of Mahonri's Easter Hatchalong (still in the running to stay). He has taken the unicorn look to a whole new level!!

Yup, thats like my unicorns !!!

Except they dont have the single feather sticking up like that ! They have thrown me a little taking it as a roo, but the Contessa arrived with one and she is laying steady now, albeit pullet eggs, but I do have several other pullets with them. I'd say the Single Combs are in the minority here.

Laree is good for morning coffee although I have sprayed the monitor with coffee a couple of times,

I am learning not to have coffee in the mouth when I read her posts.

Re the Icelandics in MI, yep , I have some although they are leaving in mid Sept for Wa. State. My job the next 3 weeks is rebuilding their trailer, for them and goats.

I have gotten 2 other small flocks started in the area, and will start another in Boise enroute. I expect next year there will be some new ones in Wa, and one I am pretty sure in SE Id.

To me they are the best Homestead Chicken breed that I have found !!!

Hardy, beautiful, economical to maintain and fascinating, in no particular order. When I grow up and figure out how to get it done I will be posting pics of my little flock , I really will, someday.

Life is good, and better with Icelandics !!

ETA: I am going to need help naming the Icelandics---next week I will post pictures of all the birds. I am doing the mass cull on Monday, so that should make taking pictures a bit easier.

My only naming rule: I have to be able to pronounce/yell it.

Here, the coons continue to visit us. Last night at midnight there were THREE coons in one pen. One was in the trap eating tuna, the other 2 on top the trap. Cody shot one, we trapped on, and one got away. So far we have killed 13 coons and 2 possums.

Yesterday I rehomed 10 beautiful little Icelandic boys. I kept the ones I am unsure of the sex, and the pullets. In other words, big red combs have new homes.

I did bumble foot surgery on Kola last night. She is inside with me for a few days now. I don't want her out in the weather. She had it on both feet. One was easier than the other to remove the "plug." I hope this works and she recovers without incident. I thought about giving her a PCN shot, but am unsure.
