Icelandic Chickens

THANK YOU THANK YOU! I will check those out. Looks like I've gotten what I could from this thread, so I will try some Icelandic sources. My sister lived there for years, so she can help.

Thanks again to those who helped, it is a fascinating subject. Anyone who wants any information if I can get anything "firm" on the genetic uniqueness of these birds, PM me and I'll keep you in the loop.

Regards,
Diane

Diane,

i feel certain I can speak for all of us when I say, we are hoping that if you get any new information, you'll come and share it here!

Another haboob hit---I had an incident in the run, but I am better now. Nothing like a little slapstick comedy to kick off your evening!!

Laree you tell me yours I will tell you mine. I will even go first.

On Sunday I was sorting some chickens to get them ready to be picked up. My chicken catcher was at my brother's house (my 9 yr old daughter is the best chicken catcher) and so I was out there doing it by myself. I caught 2 girls and were putting them in the coop door. As I was closing the door one of them tried to make a break for it. I leaned in to push the chicken back and bam the coop door slammed down on my face. I saw stars, said a few bad words, leaned over my knees, panicked because the blood would rush to my face making the bruise bigger, so I hurriedly straighten up. Dizzy now, I say another bad word, and finish gathering chickens. Then I go in the house and get the ice pack. I never should have bent over, the bruise is awful!

I just finished candling the eggs in my incubator. Fertility is 86% which I think is pretty good considering I found 17 of those eggs under the goat sleeping platform after having been there who-knows-how-long. I am going to send you plenty of extras Shawn in hopes of getting a great hatch even with shipped eggs. I will ship tomorrow for Monday delivery or Saturday for Tuesday delivery. I will mark the box itself this time!

GEZZZZZZZZZ, Tonya! OUCH! Hope the ice pack helps!

Mary, that is excellent fertility! I can hardly wait to see what all you get out of your hatch, too! Some are from new layers, right? Might get some new color combinations!

A few of my Icelandic chickens Unfortunately, this cockerels tail feathers were pick on when he was young and never grew back.
