Truly a wonderful story. And what a new adventure for you and to be a part of something so very special. Best wishes and please keep us updated. BTW if Sigrid and Sveinn screened you so carefully, I'm sure it is because they are truly passionate about what they're doing. Carry that tradition on.

Mary, would like your feedback on your Brinsea incubators compared to Hova-bators. Get well soon otherwise we got to anchor your down from medicated high

Mary,
Hope you heal quickly and feel better!

Ummm, I hatch quite a bit. Well, ya see, I am a hatchaholic. Anyway, I have Brinseas, Hovabators, and a Sportsman. I HATE the Brinsea, for several reasons. If you buy the Eco (economy model) you simply can not keep the humidity up. It is difficult to open (no grip) without slipping. I don't like the black basket thingy, as you can not see (when cleaning) well enough. Not enough room. I don't like the wire things they have for holding the eggs in a row (forget what they are called). I only use the Brinsea as a "recovery room," to dry and fluff the chicks. Cleaning it is a nighmare. Well, it is for me anyway, as I clean and disinfect thoroughly after each use, which means unscrewing the top pieces to clean out the dust-dander from the heating element area. I give the Eco model two thumbs down.

Hovabator .... I LOVE the Genesis model. It is large and you can actually see into it! I LOVE it! I incubate in the Sportsman and hatch (day 18 - 21) in the Hovabator Genesis. If I did not have the cabinet incubator, I would certainly use the Genesis for the entire process. I have other Hovabators as well. They work fine too, but don't have the big picture window. I do recommend having one with circulated air ("turbofan") though. It helps keep the temp circulating more evenly (with fewer cool spots). Hovabator Genesis gets two thumbs up from me!

WOW! How cool is that! That is a lot to be proud of! It is great to see such dedication at such a young age. Determination and drive are important in life. That is what leads to success and rewards.
Congratulations to Buddy!

I'm not sure what's more addicting the Icelandic Chickens or the pics and narratives...Whichever the case, I am addicted...I feel like I know each of you; I've watched your posts anxiously as if I were the one experiencing the event. I've laughed and cried. This is the best forum ever. I just adore Ingrid and her tenacity to hold true to the breed and for Mary - for being that "1" that never gave up and made this possible. You have touched many - most you may never know about. Well I have days/weeks/months worth of posts to catch up on. Love and Blessings, hopefully will catch up soon

Today is the final packing and loading day, a little bit to do on one Ark light, I am picking Sergey up at 2 and he will finish that and we will get all of the rest loaded including the critters of the feather persuasion. Friends coming over at 5 for a sendoff.

It looks pretty sure that we will have the cat count increasing , in the van, over the weekend, Jinji is big as a dog and all systems appear to be go, I can see an occasional bump and roll in her belly now, and thats through her long hair !

I love that Icelandic stamp, where did you get yours from ?

Its going to be a fascinating trip with all the critters, cats and kittens, the dog, the Icelandics and the goats, all wondering what is going on, except the goats who couldnt care less, they are in their herd, got food and its Interesting ! An attitude worth being worked for.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens and Pack Goats !

Thanks Kathy. Going to make the Hova-bator a family X'mas gift. I'm sure my girls will get a kick out of seeing chicks hatch through the large window.
