I'll have to get a picture of my first broody Icelandic. Talk about a pancake. If I had the Icelandics separate, so I know they are pure, I might consider letting her have some eggs. But the barn isn't ready yet, so everyone is all mixed together, so no eggs for her

One member of my egg layer flock is also broody and she has the prettiest trill when she knows I'm going to check under her. It's musical

Very different from the growling and monster sounds the others make.

Thanks for the encouragement Jake! Safe travels. Sounds like quite an adventure for you and the animals!

I reduced the population by 3 in the layer coop this morning. The broody with the oldest baby and Stella were standing by the gate that leads out to the free range area from the layer yard. Before anyone else came over I opened the gate and all three went out and I shut it behind them! Stella has another chance at being a free ranger but, the first time she breeches security it is back to the layer yard for good. I hadn't planned to let her go but the opportunity to get the other two out without a fuss was too great. The Mom will have all day to reconnect with her Icelandic peeps and show the baby around.

All five eggs due to hatch today are pipped. I put the other 8 on lockdown. #9 was a very late quitter, like in the last two days.

Y'all posted while I was typing so I had to edit to say hello and thanks!

Mary, a few months ago you told me (in e-mail) that you had just hatched a silver chick (Icelandic) and were so excited...do you recall?
I was wondering if you have time, to post a pic of the chick/bird ?
A chick pic and a grown up pic of this coloration?
I would love to see it!
Thanks, know you are busy...

I do recall. I will try to get a picture in a bit. I am baking a Pear Pecan Upside Down Cake at the moment to take to my neighbor as a peace offering for Louis's unauthorized visit to their house.
