Icelandic Chickens

You have to wonder just how many red buicks end up in your driveway. I bet they were fixin' to have another chicken and you had the audacity to come home while they were still out there. I am flabbergasted at the gall of people today. I would tell the police that this is the second time the car was in your driveway and the neighbor said they took a chicken the first time. Give them the license no., so they can be on the lookout.

Shawn there is no such thing as coincidence, zip, none.

If, they were feeding it was to bait them close enough to grab !

Give the police the number and file a complaint for trespassing , with a notice that a neighbor had reported to you a red buick engaged in a prior theft. Tell them that you are highly p.o.d. and that you will protect your property every way that you can.

Mary how long did you have Pretty Boy? Was he the other original roo?

My Blau doesnt show any signs of the wry gene.

Got wood heat?
I went through a good 16-18 cord each winter, some only using 12.
But with this next La Nina winter, you may get alot more snow than normal.
DrumstickDiva & I were just discussing that very thing.
Hope you do well, wrap the pipes...insulate, and get the wood shed full as fast as you can.
We always had our first snow by or just before Halloween, in a 'normal' winter.
I have talked to several people, old breeders, and recieved some e-mails back saying the exact same thing as you have here.
In the 3 mo old stage, these birds grow LONG tails, as long or longer than their bodies.
Their tails also stick straight out, whereas most breeds have graduatingly larger feathers and cocks developing the sickles at 5-6 months of age.
Icelandics do not do that necessarily...having their bigger, straighter tail feathers at a younger age.
My theory (as much as I can gather by all input) is that the birds are small yet, and have juvenile muscles holding up the suddenly bigger tails, and they can be catty-whompus for a while, as Kathy said also.
Most all people I have talked to also stated that wry tail, does not come on suddenly, that it is evident at a much younger age.
It can be seen in small chicks in most breeds.
These birds do have longer tails than most at a young age, and I am sure I would have noticed if any were wry when they were chicks.
So, I am going to give them alot more time, for their bodies to grow into their tails.
No one need cull, but I would greatly appreciate it, if anyone does have chicks right now, to closely watch the tails, and see if your chicks do get wobbly at this age (3-4 months age)
I will log in & keep you up to date on any (or no) developements.
Thanks to you all!

X2, and maybe the police will take you, and/or find your bird at their house!
Good thing you caught them!!!!!!!

You know, these people could have been stealing your stock (and other people's) for a long time, and just the one time your neighbor noticed.
It could have been going on for weeks~
We have a wildview cam, lined up and moved around the peoperty to get pics of predators, even at night.
A cheap and great investment lets us upload the pics to the computer.
You'd be surprised to see what is going on at your place when you are not there, or at night, the camera has an infrared lens.
Just cannot point it at the pens, or it will (motion activated) take pictures of your chickens all day.
Great for evidence!
