Icelandic Chickens

So ,Mary are you saying that I should cull that one ? Sorry,I'm old and on medication so I didn't follow you all the way on that!lol

Not a Fram, I was wishing the two speckled ones had crest! I like the crest too. Especially some that I have seen in other pics that were pretty good size ones. My roo that vanished had a small crest but as his three row rose comb came to size he almost lost it.
The roo that got away also had a problem that I just recently found out what it was. He was a polydipsia. Which means he had an unusualy huge thirst. He would drink till his crop was almost like a baloon. They are not for sure but think it is hereditary so its proably best I won't be able to use him anyway. Has anyone else had a bird like this crop out?It didn't seem to affect him,he grew up nice and fast and was just beautiful and just starting to get "manly" lol.
The one thing that I love about this breed is the unknow variety that can happen. I will be a staunch defender in not "standardizing " this breed. I also have EE bantams. I will pit them against any ones Americannas, but to avoid the bickering because they are not one color I just call them EE. The very first EEs I saw some forty years ago were mixed and thats the way I like them. The only standard I breed for in them is beard, ear muffs, and blue eggs. So now I am happy I have two breeds that can look like a bunch of mixed coloredc mutts but still be a very special pure breed.

My favorite cockeral, 3 weeks ago.
Look how much he looks like the one in the pics above (previous page) ...DH is calling this boy Pop Eye, cuz he is crested & his SC falls over one side.

Well, I think I have 7 roosters and 4 pullets.... the two littlest ones are too young to tell but I'm crossing my fingers that they are both pullets...

One of the white roos, looks a lot like my lemon blue cochin in coloring, must be related to Stella... He was down the road about a quarter mile!!! My neighbor herded him home.. I can't wait to get our fence and barn finished!!!

Our fence is on hold on the south side since our neighbors decided to sue us... When we bought it last year we were told that the property line and the fence line were not the same but when we had it surveyed in preparation for the fence, we found out that on the West side, the actual property line is about 20 feet South of where the fence is. Now the neighbor is suing us for taking down the old barb wire fence that was 100% on our property, suing for in excess of $10,000 damages, attorneys fees and they want the court to award them legal title of the land south of the old fence.. I'm going to have to get an attorney Monday and we are hoping we win... I hate lousy neighbors!!!

OK Mary you made me run all the way down to the barn with my camera.

I have at least three mottled juvies right now with crests. This girl is the oldest. She is stunningly mottled with the beginnings of a gorgeous crest. Lukka raised this one.

This little cockerel is a beautiful black and white mottled with a very nice crest. This was one of my four brooder babies.

This guy isn't mottled but he is definitely all that and a bag of chips! He is one of my brooder babies too.

I have at least one more mottled with a crest but I didn't want to disturb them to figure out which one it is. I decided to do a head count and I came up two short. One little guy got left out last night after the door closed. So I took my flashlight out and looked around but couldn't find them. I went back and counted again, same thing, missing two. I headed back out with my flashlight to look some more. As I left the coop and went through the screen door into the brooder room I heard a strange sound overhead. I went back into the coop and found these two roosting seven feet off the ground on the 2x4 frame over the door. That is getting closed off tomorrow. I have no clue how they got up there! There is nothing to hop up on so they had to fly up from the ground and hold on for dear life once they got on the ledge. But, look at the big crest on the dark one!

Oh no Shawn. That just stinks. Maybe they will back down after your attorney shows them the surveyor's report. I sure hope so. In CA if you have livestock and a neighbor has barb wire you can remove it for safety reasons. At least that is what we were told when we bought this place. Keep us posted. Sorry about all the roos!

Silly girl!!
A dog that has swallowed a tennis shoe is a saying, for the long shoe laces of chop slime the large breeds often have.
It is thick spit ((LOL))) that looks like they have eaten a tennis shoe

LOOK at that boy! A red head! It looks like he has bushy eye brows too! Oh yeah, he is all that!

Yep, he sure does. And he is already the big man on campus. He has been since the day I opened the baby coop doors and let them out. The two girls from the brooder baby group follow him everywhere. He da man!
