Farmerboy, I was wondering how many of your Ices have the dark legs? I was trying to see in pics but its hard to keep track of.

Thank You
Karen B

The roo in the 4th picture has the darkest legs, still yellow, but with some gray/brown. I will be getting 3 more roos and a pullet soon from the same lady that I got the others from, but couldn't catch. I will let you know what color their legs are.

.... can't figure out how to make comments on your blog... but hey, CONGRATULATIONS on the changeup.

BTW.. do you have any fish in your pond?

Just go to the end of the post you want to comment on and there is a link to Comment. Write your comment in the box then you have to identify the numbers and letters in the box and you can post it. I had a robot adding comments so I had to add the Captcha security.

We didn't stock our pond but there are fish in there that come in through the irrigation canal water that feeds the pond. They aren't really big but I suppose they could grow in the pond. It's 11 feet deep.

Daron good luck with your new Icelandics !

The roo that was black as a juvenile could well have added blue, he was looking great !

I see the quarantine on the chickens, but why not incubate the eggs?? Of course there wont be a lot but some for a week. Are they both laying now? You are starting with excellent stock from both of your acquisistions, enjoy !!!

Okla I am betting that your Gunnar is a Greta. She is a beauty !

Happy trails for Stuart, and long live Mattie !! May both couples dance in joy and progeny !!

Okla-doodle-doo...........Gunnar is a pullet. Your Helga looks just like my Briet. Such a pretty pattern on Gisla - haven't seen that pattern before.

Daron - good luck getting the rest of them!

Mary - Congrats on getting a girl emu! I'm sure you'll spoil her rotten and she'll love her new home.

Hiya Jake! Hope you're not buried in snow.

Daron, were the birds not kept separate and that is why you aren't incubating? If so, good reason!

Jake, your babies moved out to the big brooder in the garage yesterday. I got up so many times last night to go downstairs and check the temp! They did fine and are exploring their new digs this morning. OMG, look at all the pink zip ties! I am so paranoid about heat lamps. I am going to order the Brinsea EcoGlow brooder heater and not have to worry about it.

The little brown one is getting it's wing feathers so fast it can hardly hold them up. They sure are pretty though!

Wow, what a beauty !!

I have the material now for their brooder here to sit beside my puter, they will be spoiled rotten in no time ! The dark one is sure a beauty already , looking at those wings he has a great start!!

I love that brooder, is that a glass door???

I use zip ties too, sure beats wiring things. Our hill/mtn tops are white now, more coming, spending much time on the shed, am hoping its done next week ! I am going to pick up the roofing today, and a few more odds and ends, lot of time consuming things at this stage.

The Icelandics will have more then 3 times their present space with a 10' X 6' chain link panel to look out of the coop and at the world til the run is done. For the winter it will just be 10' by 10' and covered. But should give them all of the daylight they need. Heated water and most likely a heat lamp in Jan. We'll see.

Chickie Lady bad sprained her knee, major ouchie, hobbling around on crutches, her hubby is watching her close, I told her to get a big bottle of Jamesons for her mishaps.

I forgot about the other birds with Darons, yep, he needs to separate them for 3 weeks just to be sure.

You got the haboob fever.

Jake, if you get a heat lamp, order the Premier. It is not very expensive and built to prevent fires. They also have bulbs under 250 watts.

Me too! I was just reading about it. I sent her a PM a couple of days ago but she hasn't responded. probably can't drag herself out of that beautiful chicken barn!
