Icelandic Chickens

Other Mary - gorgeous pictures. Mary has a hen that looks exactly like Bara. Dreki is a handsome guy! And yes, third looks like a pullet.

Mahonri - Mary had an emu that she gave back to the breeder to take these 2 she has now. The one she gave back turned out to be a girl. I told her she can just go steal her back or use my bator to hatch herself a girl later. I can totally see how they grow on you, they are very personable and funny animals.

Understandable!

I'm just hoping that eventually Mary has a bunch of isbars and legbars so she can sell and mail chicks!!! They are amazing and BEAUTIFUL!!!

I have looked at the Cream Legbars online and they are beautiful, but, to me, the Icelandics are much more interesting, older for sure, and a part of history. The genetics of them will be quite awhile being unraveled. The Isbars are another thing altogether, they are beautiful, and very appealing to me. Different strokes for different folks and there is a breed or more for everyone to find what they like.

I like the autosexing trait Jake. Plus, I want blue eggs but have yet to find more than one Ameraucana that wasn't meaner than hell. I can't tolerate mean chickens. Raven, the beautiful black Ameraucana that Kathy sent me is only still here because Kathy sent her. She is so darn mean. She is brutal to babies. I think Lukka will give her a run for her money when she starts taking her Barnies out for walks. Maybe that is just what Raven needs to see the error of her ways. I don't want to get rid of her but I hate to see her dragging baby Icelandics around by their crests! My wheaten AM Skye is a love bug and I was hoping Raven would emulate her, but noooooooooo. Anyway for what it's worth, I have two pairs of Cream Legbars. Six eggs are up to $168.00 on eBay. Of course they won't be going for that by the time mine lay, but such is life. I just heard that Greenfire is getting birds from a different line of Cream Legbars soon. I may spring for some of those for genetic diversity.

My last Icelandic broody kicked her babies to the curb a few days ago and started laying again. Michael took her off the roost tonight and deposited her back down in the Icelandic coop. I am not keeping the babies so they can stay up here till they get a little bigger. I got a real scare a couple of nights ago. I went into the coop and the Icelandic Mama had 3 of the babies up on the top roost with her. I couldn't find the other two so I turned on the light. I about fainted when I saw the two white babies on the bottom roost, each tucked under one of my frizzled bantam cochin's wings! I fear the broody madness of the cochin may be stirring.

I'll try to post some pictures of Lukka and her Barnies tomorrow! She was a tad psycho today teaching them to eat and drink.

Dump that mean Black Ameraucana girl, Mary! I wouldn't tolerate a mean bird. Nope, no mean birds here...... boys or girls! I'll hatch you some pretty Lavender Ameraucanas.....

Kathy! Stop posting that stuff! Good grief who needs an ugly thing like that. Don't look Kelly. We don't need that, besides they'd probably be mean too! LaLaLaLalalalallalalalalal.......................
