Icelandic Chickens

Robin send him Marys discription, if he cant accept that then kiss them off, I'd like to do a display too but not under their thumb like that, its purely a way to lock you out. If they wont accept what Mary wrote then

Very nice pics Daron, when I get this project done I will have some of mine, and maybe the Purrkids too.

I just came in for a quick bite and hand thawing, heading back out,

Snow coming down seriously, got 18" since last night, still coming down. Life goes on.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens and Pack Goats !

Robin - I say give them the Standard (in Icelandic of course)

I agree with Kathy on mentioning that they are a "landrace" rather than a "breed".

Daron - nice pics! What on Earth is that 2nd bird? Guinea?

Incubator was delivered to Mary - she's a bit late though............if she gets the eggs on Monday, she'll miss the NYD hatch by a week.

Oh Kathy, forgot to say Congrats on the egg! Now if you could just spread the word to Olive and Dusty.

Also, Mary mentioned to me over coffee that she was going to get rid of Raven the Ameraucana because she's attacking the Isbar babies. I told her she should throw her down in the Icelandic coop and let Isi kick her butt and show her some manners. Since she will lay blue eggs, there's no worry on an accidental crossing.

And Mary - both molt and moult are proper terms - I believe molt is used for birds and moult is used for reptiles.

I've been seeing an egg or two but wasn't sure who and how many of the girls were laying. I know Asta was (saw her is the nests on a regulary basis) and that Anna wasn't (she's still getting through her molt) but here's what I found when I got home from work today!! Multiple pullets are laying!!!

Congratulations on the new layers! I love gathering eggs!

I went back out to see if there just might be more eggs!

At quick glance I was thrilled to see a nest occupied...........
until I realized it was Bitsy (my little rooster).

These are fabulous dishes; good hearty foods for cold winter months. In my home country (England) we often use leeks instead of cabbage, whichever is available. Also, if you like Brussels sprouts, you can used cooked, chopped brussels in the bubble & squeak.
I'm making bubble and squeak for breakfast tomorrow, with eggs and sausage.
