Icelandic Chickens

Happy Chooks, which is better, Firefox or Chrome? Do you have to uninstall the IE9 to install the others? I have been considering reformatting my computer anyway. My dial up is so slow that when there is a page with lots of pics or a video then I cannot see them.

I don't think I will be able to even open pages with huge multi colored fonts and unlimited photo sizes. The biggest reason for me to stay off BYC is that HighesNet limits the amount of data we can download (open) in a day. If you go past that, you are downgraded to modem speed for 24 hours or must pay $12.50 for a token to buy your way out. One coop page with a dozen huge pics will do me in. My own website is a strain on our allowance so I think the new BYC with put the nail in the coffin. Michael plays with online flight simulators all day and his usage alone puts us over our limit some days. The other thing is I just renewed my Platinum membership for a year and now it seems that everyone will have the same benefits without paying for them. Rob says there will be new stuff for GFM's a PPM's coming but I wish I would have been notified before I renewed.

I hate to sound like a whiner but I am. Highspeed internet is jusyt not available to me or I would have it. This may just really become backyard chickens. Michael says to give it a try tomorrow but if it drains our allowance I will have to stay away. We have unlimited between 11 pm and 4 am so maybe I can occasionally get on when I can't sleep and catch up.

Well, this is a bit of a bummer. Here I was, excited to see the new layout, only to find that some of the people I'd most like to speak to and learn from need to consider opting-out. I'm sorry to hear that, though I do understand and accept it. Nonetheless, I hope it turns out to not be true. I know I've been a little bit of a lurker, and I hope that doesn't make you uncomfortable, but dang it I've already learned so much by reading through this thread. You folks are wonderful! I hope that, if you do need to cut back, you do have the occasion to stop by once in a while. Your work has been very much appreciated by me. Pete

x2!

Kathy - the new format should work okay for you. You'll get better performance if you use Firefox or Chrome for your browser. No need to leave!

I use Chrome and love it, its free and so easy for a non-computer savvy guy like me.

I let my Icelandics free-ranging again today. They keep staying close to the coop and the cow shed.

Does any one need or want a Icelandic rooster or two? I have 6 to rehome. All in very good health and raring for some girls of their own.

It's not my browser. I have Firefox. It is my internet server. I have WildBlue satellite. They are so dang slow already. AND, to top that, my computer is old and memory is low (5%). I am simply not gonna go out and buy a new computer so I can play on a chicken forum. Nope, I can't do it. That is what it would take. Oh well...... whiney me.

Yikes Kathy, Wild Blue and HughesNet are essentially one and the same according to what we were told and they use the same satellites. For me it is not so much speed as daily download allowance. We already pay hundreds a month for internet and then the $12.00 per day penalty tokens add up fast. I am hoping for the best but expecting the worst, that way I will be pleased if i can continue blogging, hubby can fly his flight simulators and I can check in on BYC. Should know tomorrow. I am also sorry I renewed my Platinum membership for a year recently because now everyone will have the same benefits for free, except some yet to be announced new benefits.

I guess tomorrow will tell. I am in no way done harassing you though.

Mary

I hear ya! I wish we had the luxury of having cheap (and fast) DSL. Not an option out in the sticks. I have no intention of renewing my Platinum, either. Paying to remove ads is quite upsetting to me. I see no benefit, at this point in time.

I am at work right now..... gee, so nice to have a fast server. LOL
