Icelandic Chickens

We got 4-5 inches of snow yesterday and last night.....chooks are none too happy about it!
In the interest of "equal time" here are pics I took of the other three boys last weekend, before everything turned white!!
Bjarthur

Boi (kind of blurry but best pic I got of him)

Dreki (didn't get a stationary pic of him except this one, sorry about the branch in his face)

We had lost power for about a hour and a half last night to a snow storm. The temp was in the low 20s. When I woke up, and saw my alarm blinking, I panicked, and got dress quickly for I had week old chicks in the brooder shed outside. They looked fine, but lost 1 week old chipmunk Icelandic chick. It was weak, and I think that it was smothered by the other chicks. I had 3 of the fully feathered month old chicks with them, and I think that they had saved the younger chicks by allowing the younger chicks under them like broody hen, but they are roos, so I thought that was funny and cute.

This was taken a week ago-

NotAFarm- Those are very beautiful roos that you have!

Mary- Those emus chicks are very cute! You gotta stop temping us! Thank goodness that I found that they eat about 10 to 15 pounds of feed a day! I would be broke in a week if I got some. :barnie

Other Mary and Daron..........adorable pics.

Mary....Ctrl + right click will give you spell check still. Love Loca! She's the Stella of the emu world! Can't wait to come play with them.

I candled last night so my kids could see them moving inside - they love seeing it and so do I. One of the Icelandic eggs has a blood ring, so I'm down to 3 Icelandic eggs. Somehow I missed a clear on one of the barnevelder eggs, so I pulled it out too.

So in my bator I'm down to:
3 Icelandic eggs
2 Isbar eggs
1 Barnevelder egg
2 Welsummer eggs
1 Mutt egg

Ohhhhh, I bet the kids loved the candling! I hope your remaining eggs hatch! Good luck!

Daron, where did you see that they eat that much? I use Mazuri Ratite Feed and the two boys eat about 2 cups a day. I'll ask over on the emu thread to see what everyone else's experience is but that seems outrageous to me.

I remember you said it wasn't doing very well.
You'll have plenty more soon, I'm sure!

Kelly, When are they due? I hope the rest make it!
