Icelandic Chickens

Does BYC seem "slower" now or is it just me?

...slower as in less participation than normal?

I agree Mahonri - I've been getting about a zillion updates on Washingtonian site and usually Icelandics is a close second. Maybe we need to spark interest by fabricating a story about you hatching a glo in the dark icelandic - something different.

To be fair the Washington thread is mainly discussing back and forth the Powell tragedy where the lives of the two sons were lost etc. I don't think any of us would want a murder to spur attention on this thread.

Maybe it's post Super Bowl blues Or take a page from Mary's book and do a blog and videos of your chickens etc. Hey Mary is slumping, she has really let us down. I know I need another young emu or fainting goat video to perk me up.

Yes, it seems much slower to me. I use to get home from work and spend alot of time catching up.....now, not so much. It seems some key players are missing...for example, on this thread, Jake and Michelle. Others seems to be posting less often. Multiply that by all the threads and, yes, it's slower. Many others came here to view the auctions and those are spending time on other sites, that means less traffic here. I'm not experiencing many of the problems others are having. I don't know why, I don't have top-of-the-line anything here. I have a Verizon wireless connection that occasionally gets dropped but my options where I am are very limited.

On the bright side
!) My Java pullet is sitting tight on the 6 Icelandic eggs I gave her!
2) I collected an even dozen eggs today that will be added to what I get tomorrow and first thing Thursday for my meeting with Joyous later Thursday morning!
3) Since Joyous moved up our meeting, I'll be able to get the coops rearranged earlier, which means they will have more time to settle in and give Mahonri some great eggs for the Easter Hatchalong!
4) I'm glad BYC is still here....I look forward to "talking" to all of you and hearing from you each day. Life just wouldn't be the same with it. It's different, but none of us are what we were.......things change.

NotAFarm- I had shipped eggs to Joyous yesterday too.

I think that BYC is slower because we are not getting the email updates? :hu Its very annoying about the email situation. :barnie

Daron, That is why we are meeting on Thursday instead of Saturday. She wants to set all the eggs together and wants mine there when yours arrive! We are spreading Icelandics everywhere!

I thought that I'd stop in to say hi to everyone. I've been here and there on BYC, but various goings-on in the offline world have me only logging in a few minutes at a time.

I'm now in the planning stages for a new coop and run, intending to populate it with Icelandics come early summer if possible. Any suggestions I should keep in mind while planning? A new garage under construction means I now have a large shed to work with, and my wonderful wife has begun to recover her normal eye movement....for some reason she would roll her eyes and shake her head whenever I brought up the topic of more chickens. It was the darndest thing

I'm glad that she's feeling better now. I hope that all of you are doing well, too.

Make it bigger than you think you'll need..........and leave room to add on when that becomes necessary......because it WILL become necessary!

Think security Pete. Not from the outside in but from the inside out. I am pretty sure all icelandic chickens hatch looking for a way to get back to Iceland. DH chased one through the donkey pasture, under a fence and back into our yard today. She was headed down the neighbor's driveway via the irrigation canal. In 15 months of free ranging this is the first time any have started to go over and under fences. Make it secure. Combination locks.
