Icelandic Chickens

I went to the barn late last night to open the door between the juveniles cage and the layers so they could all wake up together and I got to see that 2 of my Icelandics roost on the top of a doorjam, 3 roost on the window sill, the rest pile up on the floor :/

So I woke up thinking about how to modify their roost/swing so I'm going to run out to the barn and see what I come up with.

I took a bazillion pictures and will probably take more... Don't say I didn't warn ya :D

Michelle....bring it on.

Oddly enough, that statement fits so many aspects of living here. We don't get much sleep in winter because there is so much to do (and it all takes longer in the snow) and we don't sleep much in the summer because the sun is up so we can get so much more done

Seriously tho, itis one tough mother of a race, I have so much respect for the select few that can get themselves through all the challenges the trail can throw at them. Odd # years they do one trail, even numbered they do another, slightly different path. Met a man in his 70's the other day, he finished a couple years ago but wants to do it again to take the other trail. In his 70's!

Well, maybe there is hope for me then ! But I know my limitations and sleep deprivation is a biggie, not even considering the -55 F on the Yukon River, or lower. I will have to make do with rooting for all of them.

We had 3 inches of fresh snow overnight. Everyone slept in so I took my cup of coffee to the barn.

Sleepyhead met me halfway

There seems to be some confusion this morning about what these boxes are for.

At least somebody seems to have figured it out.

Here is the new roost, after some minor modifications

No one was eager to check it out so I resorted to bribery. Who can resist toasted garlic bread?

Kelinn wanted to see what she was eating

Where there's a will there's a way

Tonight we'll see how many Icelandics we can stack on this contraption

Kathy, this is the roo from your eggs, I really need to name him.

It was a very peaceful and productive morning.

I love the peaceful mornings, the clouds are low so I can't see the mountains but it's still beautiful

I hope you all have a wonderful day. I'm off to the Post office to mail these treasures
