Icelandic Chickens

He's a sheepdog, everything is for herding. He's good with them.

I could have used him last fall when my dingbat turkeys tried to go every where EXCEPT their coop at bedtime. It was a comedy of errors watching me get them off the coop roof (I pushed them with an 8' 2X4) and of course some landed in one pen some in the pasture and some in the back yard. I would try to "herd" them into a cluster but they would always split

Your cute little dog would have been laughing his pants off

Oddly enough, that statement fits so many aspects of living here. We don't get much sleep in winter because there is so much to do (and it all takes longer in the snow) and we don't sleep much in the summer because the sun is up so we can get so much more done

Seriously tho, itis one tough mother of a race, I have so much respect for the select few that can get themselves through all the challenges the trail can throw at them. Odd # years they do one trail, even numbered they do another, slightly different path. Met a man in his 70's the other day, he finished a couple years ago but wants to do it again to take the other trail. In his 70's!

How do the dogs do? I know they are bred for it, but man, they must be tired too!

It's crazy, some of them still have spunk when they get to the finish line. There are some mandated rest stops and many vet checks along the way. Dog health is the #1 concern. It's like cattle horses or herding dogs, it's what they are bred for and what they love it.

HAHAHA

I made it back

The silly Icelandics were perched in the window, above the door and huddled on the floor. They had cleaned all the bread off the new roosts so I know they were on it, but no one is using it for a sleeping area yet.

I also got a chance to collect another turkey egg and then I put my silkie eggs into lockdown

Hi Michelle

I am betting that you will have to take the swing out of the roosts, I could never get any kind of chickens to use ones that wernt solid. Whenever I see chickens roosted in trees its on big branches, not the swaying tips.

Good luck.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens !
