But I have to know, what does your husband think of this emu project? I mean, now you have a crapload of fencing to build. And another, ummmm, enclosure. (won't call it a coop
Oh geez, in my emu excitement, I forgot to respond to Mary.......(sorry Mary)
Love the coloring on #3. Hard to say without body shots too, but I'll say the first 3 are boys and the last 2 are girls. They are so hard to sex sometimes.
Mine are 5 weeks old and the combs on the males have already started turning pink. They have been completely feathered in for a week now (love that eco glow brooder) and off a heat source.
I've got a feisty one.........it's the feather shanked one. I'm pretty sure she's a pullet, but every time I put my finger through the wire on the run, she comes over and attacks my finger. And she bites HARD. Gonna have to teach her some manners. After this big storm is over, I'll get some updated pics of them.
Too cool Kathy!! All my kids have been watching progress and want to know when we can hatch some emus now.. They must have inherited some form of hatching disease from their mother.. couldn't have been from me...
I finally got some sleep. Today we will work on getting them to eat and drink. I am just now taking them out of the incubator. They are all dry and fluffy now. I will get some pictures.
I gotta tell ya...... I had no idea these eggs would hatch. I never did get my hopes up with them, and just sorta avoided thinking about it...... UNTIL I saw the first one wiggle! I never was 100% sure on the other one wiggling. After I had the one smelly egg and had to toss it out, I kept thinking to myself that the others would never hatch.
ME??? Me, hatch emu eggs? Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I could do that!
