Icelandic Chickens

Jake- Those chicks are the experiments. I had dipped the eggs in Tylan antibiotic solution before incubation, to see if I could destroy the MG disease in the eggs, before it infect the chicks. I have to wait 21 days before the chicks are old enough to be swabbed, then I have to send the swabs in the overnight mail to MSU to be tested. Then I will know in 2 weeks if the experiment works. That is 5 WEEKS total to wait for the results! :he

Hi Daron

Thats great too!!

They will be growing, and you have every right to expect that they will be clean !

I also treated mine, although had had no problems at all , they have been perfectly healthy right along and laying well all winter. But, treating with the dynagard was worth the assurance in knowing just in case.

Its spring and time for all good chicks to be growing well !

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens !

It took a while but I got caught up with the thread.

I just LOVE the pics from the Buck and Run. Such beautiful, birds and animals.

Congrats Daron... hope they test NEGATIVE.

So I hatched 15 of 16 of T o Mary's eggs.

The last one had some leg issues and died. So 14 very healthy chicks. 11 are reddish or chipmunky like Drekki !, 3 are whitish.

I'm still trying to decide how many roos I have remaining from Boston's eggs from the NYD hatch.
One looks like Dexter but with a rose comb... one is a small white RC...and serious, I don't see any other color feathers on him,but I'm sure there must be.... but he is on the small side. I got some with serious poofy hairdos.

Looks like I'll just have to make my 2nd grow out pen, my Icelandic coop! sssshhh... don't tell DW.... and pray they don't crow!

and why am I posting in the middle of the night?

Stupid Ghetto Bird woke me up!

As I read this thread and think of all of the folks all over the USA that have Icelandics now, Mary, you will have left a legacy for many years to come.... we need to find someone in Hawaii that wants them.... since Alaska is covered now!

Hi folks, I think it's safe to say I can join this thread now. I had my 7 token Icelandics from Wool Farm hatched on Halloween last year and just love them. NOW I have 7 from Kathyinmo and 22 from NotAFarm! I am so looking forward to a yard full of these colorful birds!
