Mary.............Congrats on the flock rebuild!!!!!

Today is hatch day. 1 Wellie and 3 Ameraucana's sent as extras. The Ameraucana's are 2 lavenders and a black split. She's got 4 more eggs under her. My welsummer broody has the other 3.

Morning everyone, I stumbled onto some interesting material and history and genetics of the Aracauna chicken, and in some of this information it had a discussion about the Silky Chickens, as I read this I had to wonder with the information provided there why would it not have been possible for the Silky to have been transplanted at some point into the Icelandics and only crop out once in a while. I know Kathy had a great explanation of the Gene for Silky but I just can't shake this thought of a Landrace Breed like the Icelandic, the only way to prove that there was no gene for the Silky in them would be DNA test. I myself can not a ford such test but when looking at pictures on this forum I will provide at the end, I see similar thing as in the Rooster I have, such as silky everywhere on the body but the wings and tail. Now I am not trying to start an argument here, only to provide information to support my guess!!! Lynn in Okla.

Congratulations, Kelly! I can hardly wait to see your pictures!
Ha! Gonna be a while! I went out to see if any more had hatched and came in with 8 more wounds on my arm and hand. She doesn't want anyone messing with her chicks! She has 5 babies now.

My wellie broody has 1 baby and another pipped. She's nice and lets me have a peek.

Congrats Mary and Happy Chooks on the hatches, I hope to have a few Icelandics hatching in a couple weeks, not sure what eggs my son put under the hen, there may be one or two out of the Frayed rooster so I will be watching close for that and I will not be breeding him in the future and I am going to keep him and try some different things with him and see if he perhaps molts out of his dilemma before I do away with him, I have to give him a chance, I just can't let it go right now. Lynn

Congrats on the hatches.
I noticed my rooster Curly (he is still young and foolish) is starting to breed with my two icelandic hens... Great news but this means it is time to rehome my Golden Campine rooster and his Campine hen :( too bad such a great rooster but too hard to keep them seperated....
