Icelandic Chickens

oh what a pretty campine
She is a keeper! As she gets older, her markings will get cleaner, her gold will intensify and she'll be beautiful!

They are such an easy keeper and smart! The first birds in every pen to learn to go into the coop at night and figure out the roost instead of the pile on floor technique. She has nice leg color too. They actually lay a lrg/x-lrg egg and reliably every day. Although the girls from the NYD hatch started laying a couple of weeks ago and they are still at the pee-wee/sm stage.

The biggest thing she has going for her............is being a she! It seems like if I only hatch one of a breed, it will be a boy every time.

I'll have to post an updated picture of the two chicks I got from your eggs (both pullets, yay), one with a crest and one without.

Dang, that means I'll be up until 2-3 tonight. You know they can't hatch without my nose pressed to the window every ten minutes. I have 9 CL and 2 serama eggs on lockdown, due the same day (tomorrow). I have one of each pipped so far.

I am so excited. I used my chicken money to buy this wagon on Craigslist. It is a movie prop! I am picking it up in the morning. It will have a Buck 'n Run Ranch sign attached to it and be sitting alongside my driveway! We are having a 3-rail white ranch fence put up next week across the front of our property and down the sides to meet the pasture fencing. There will be a locking gate across the driveway to keep the neighbors out! I want to park the wagon in a frame made from railroad ties filled with gravel. Then I want to plant cacti in half barrels beside it. I will decorate it for all the holidays starting with July 4th. I am not even going to sleep tonight I am so excited. I have been looking from something to set up apart and when I saw it, I just knew it was perfect. My neighbors have plows, old tractors and mining equipment but this will be the bomb. Michael has a grandiose plan to put in a water feature, one of those old water pumps or a turned over barrel and low voltage lighting. That will require electric be run so that is a pipe dream at this point. Oh my, can't you just see Santa up there with deer pulling the wagon?
