Icelandic Chickens

Kathy, I was finally able to see the movie. Nice work! Wilma is quite the acrobat. I love the falls and foot pumps. That is my favorite. I can get my girls to do it just by yelling "Uh, Oh!" It is too funny. Poor little Fred. You can tell he wants to run with her but his little leg just won't let him.

You are getting good with that camera for sure. Don't you just love only having to carry one out with you instead of a video camera and a still camera. Makes it so much easier.

Oops, I better stop watching emu videos and get ready to go get my wagon!

Well, they decided to not put in an early appearance (the eggs are actually due to hatch today). As of this morning, all nine of the locked down CL have pipped and one of the two serama have pipped. Now I can spend the whole day with my nose pressed to the incubator window (dang, I have an appt at 11:00 to remove the four stitches from last weekend's "processing" incident).

Gee, I only live a few hours from Walt, I'd love to be able to lure invite him into sorting the 150+ birds I've raised this year.

I guess I'll just pull out the obvious (leg color, side sprig, split comb blade, tail on an araucana, etc) and then just let the rest grow until they sort themselves out. I can't believe the amount of feed we go through! I am entering a NH cockerel in the State Fair. He's still a bit youngish to be competitive, but I don't think embarassingly so. Now, just wait until the big Stockton show in January!!!

Mary, you do realize your wagon is a buckboard wagon, right? I was laying in bed last night between trips to the incubator and thinking about it,

I have a Legbar chick!!!!!!!

To my uneducated eye (not knowing how obvious the difference in coloration), this wet little chick appears to be a girl. After all the hatching/raising I've done this year, I'd like two boys and seven girls.

That is NOT the way my luck has been running.

For those that wanted to be kept updated on the importation process:

My USDA poultry import permit has been granted. Now everything pretty much rests on the health certificate, which has many components, including expensive testing for two diseases (Egg Drop Syndrome and Viral Turkey Tracheitis) that have never even existed in Iceland and, of course, the inspection.

Test results should come in sometime next week.

Does anyone have experience with using the Brinsea incubation disinfectant? The eggs need to be disinfected for transport (dipped or sprayed), but I've never used a disinfectant and I'm not sure the breeder has either. Any suggestions are appreciated, I really want to avoid damaging this precious shipment.

CL three is out, another chipmunk (girl

). I see no white on them (other than the white chick

), but this one is still wet. Chick four is zipping rapidly, but I have to go run an errand before the bank (notary) closes.

They are going to have to keep hatching without me..................maybe they can.
