One of mine has developed a cross beak. He doesn't have a problem eating though. Would you cull?

Importation update: All the tests have come back negative! I'll pick up the eggs and the precious health certificate up tomorrow and they will fly with me to the US. I'll be bringing 40 eggs, which is way more than my current backyard homestead set-up can handle. Thank God I will have 3 weeks to figure everything out.

Still can't believe everything worked out and this is really happening, it's been a lot of work but the USDA inspector has indicated that I have everything in order and that I should not have any trouble passing inspection and customs on the US side.


This process is incredibly time consuming and expensive, not surprised people have been put off from doing this.

Thank you very much mlmddh, Cooper12, Farmerboy16, Mahonri, and RedIII. I hope everything goes well and that I'll end up contributing to the genetic diversity. I will be keeping quite a small flock though so I won't be able to provide any large quantities, I'm not doing this as a business.

Mahonri, a 90% hatch rate would be a dream, but the best I've gotten from eggs that have flown through all that gamma radiation not to mention the x-ray machines is 80%. The breeder that I am getting my eggs from (same breeder as Sigríður) said I would be lucky to end up with 10 hens out of the 40 eggs. I hope I get at least that.

RedIII, congrats on your suspected girlie, small flocks rock!

Racuda, I would cull. Actually I would talk about it, my wife would do it. I grew up in the suburbs, my wife grew up on a farm.

Kathyinmo,how did the boy recover from his bath? I saw pictures of your delawares today, they are stunning.

Icelander, if you hatch an extra roo, I'd give it a good home.
