Icelandic Chickens

p.s Does anyone else find store bought eggs creepy now? We had a couple left from before the hens started laying, they are so unnatural looking to me now after getting my own eggs from chickens i have had since they were in eggs! SO weird!

Yep. Just the thought of eating store bought eggs gives me the willies. Mostly because I've seen what kind of stuff those poor chickens are given, but also because a boiled store bought egg now has the wonderful texture of a rubber tire, when compared to my fresh eggs

Quote: The texture of a fresh hard boiled egg was the most difficult for me to get used to. I can't imagine going back to store bought now - but before, I didn't know any different.
normal size icelandic, with my welsummer egg (started laying 2 days ago) and my light sussex egg
Congrats!

Got another egg yesterday from my mystery "white layer". I no longer think it's my BO playing a joke on me. I am 90% sure it's my Icelandic, and if it's not her, then I think it's my Leghorn. The only thing is......they're both such small girls! I don't know how they'd produce eggs this size. Ow! I'm going to take a picture of the most recent one and upload it when my computer is working again. It definitely looks whiter than the others, and it's HUGE. Do Icelandics normally lay large eggs, for their body size?

If it is a big egg it's probably from the Leghorn. They lay Large eggs and are small chickens.

Congratulations on the new egg layers!

I have 1 girl that is teeny. She lays the same size egg as all my other Icelandics that are twice her size. Their eggs do tend to be medium sized, unless double yolkers. If it's a huge egg every day, then it's your leghorn.
