Icelandic Hatch

Last week I had 13 of my 18 Icelandic eggs hatch. Lots of colors, especially variations of blue.

Yes, these are from my hens I incubated back in June. I also have four older babies and another smaller hatch due this week. I love Icelandics!!

Thank you! Im pretty happy. Now unless I buy eggs, I am done until my new roo matures. ( lost mine to a freak accident around Christmas.) I am going to be looking for coturnix quail, call duck and a few turkey eggs but not til spring.

Oh, I love Icelandics!
The variations are so beautiful, it'll be exciting to see how they mature.

What is cool about Icelandics is how much they can change color from the time they are a chick!! I had a cinnamon ( have one in this batch too) that was blue as an adult. My favorite color so far is the really light, almost lavender blue. Its fun watching them hatch as you never know what you will get!

My next Icelandic hatch has started! I wont have as many in this one, I would be very happy with just a couple. This baby will be black or some variety of blue. I will take pics after the hatch is done and take pics of the older chicks.

They vary from off white to cream to light tan.
