Icky, gross & Graphic - squeamish don't read - Can they eat this?

its not gross, its nature. in the wild large birds follow herbivores to clean up after them and any scraps they leave behind, and if one of the herbivores dies its a large chunk of free protein, alot easier than hunting bugs all day. thats just the chickens are, natures composters, even if they have been bred out of it for thousands of years. the only thing i would be worried about is if your cat was wearing a flea collar.

I didn't know chicks will eat mice! We've been trying to catch the same blankety blank mouse for MONTHS! Maybe one night when DH is home (works overnights) we'll bring the hens in and see what they can do. Sounds better than getting a cat! LOL

I do remember that scene from Jurassic Park. When I saw it, long before I had ever thought about having chickens, I thought it looked like a flock of featherless ugly chickens. It really illustrates the "birds from dinos" theory! They may be cute and fluffy, and we love them, but I'm going to try not to die in their presence! If you think about all the other birds we see, and know about, that eat other dead animals, it makes perfect sense. I watched group of turkey vultures strip a roadkill deer in less than an hour once. Really, their immune systems must be just spectacular to be able to ingest decaying flesh and thrive. I want my babies to mostly eat vegetarian foods so I can have lower cholesterol eggs, but I don't think we'll ever be able to completely suppress the wild nature of the animal.
