Idaho?

Pics
Oh this is to funny, I'm in the Franklin and Linder area as well, over towards the lovely freeway. I'm on Lilac St near Perigrine Elementary if you are familiar with the neighborhood I am talking about. We have 2 cats as well and they are normally indoor/outdoor cats, but due to the large family of coyotes living in a neighbors heavily treed lot we have all of our animals locked up. A coyote wouldn't hesitate eating a cat. We also have trail cam pictures of foxes coming in during the night as well. As of now we are planning on ordering chicks from Dunlaps due on Feb. 13. I was debating on getting Golden Sex Links, but after your comment I think I will go ahead and order them. I'm planning on getting 3 or 4 pullets each of Golden Sex Links, Buff Orpingtons, Light Barhams, and Barred Rocks. I'm waivering on the Barred Rocks since our last girls were a little on the aggressive side to the other hens.

Becca--don't give on the Barred Rocks--mine have always been the sweetest most easygoing in the group. I would not waiver, maybe you just had an isolated experience :) They are the only ones I ever count on for no problems. I have a friend with several and hers are the same too :love love them, they are probably my favorite for mellow personality.

Ok, I won't give up on them, I'll get three of each instead of 4 so I can get the barred rocks again. I don't think hubby is comfortable with 16 new so I'll have to settle for 12....lol.

No way!!! HA!HA!HA! You are my NEIGHBOR! I live directly across from the school! I did not know there were coyotes here, that really scares me bcuz I have a little calico cat that is in and out. She always sleeps in the house but asks to go out several times a day. So where is the house with the trees? Is it off Lilac or is it off Waltman? I'm trying to determine how close the coyote family is to me. I wonder if fish and game would trap them and move them?

It is the house on the corner with all the large trees, it is on the outside corner of Waltman and Linder. I think I have seen your calico kitty, she looks just like a young version of my kitty but my kitty is older and heavier....lol. We have had a trail cam set up and we have caught pictures of coyotes and foxes coming in. A couple of weekends ago it sounded like the coyotes were almost in our neighbors back yard at 9:30PM yipping and howling, just another night we heard a bizarre noise accross the street near our neighbors horses and the irrigation ditch, it sounded like something screeching, my husband went to go check it out and he said he saw a family of foxes but couldn't tell what they were doing...or eating. I'm not kidding you the coyotes came in during the day and took 3 chickens in one day. We lost 7 in one week! We are now working on our fences so we can let the girls back out. If you would like to come see our set up or girls you are more then welcome too! It's always nice to meet a neighbor! I'm sure you have seen me drive by, I drive a blue dodge durango.

I private mssg'd you, Becca, but since then I have figured out which house with the trees you were talking about....I think you meant Lilac and Waltman....it's the house that is the one right by the little dirt side road that leads into the corn field there. Summer before last I was by there a bunch of times because I regularly rode my horses back there...there's alot of dense trees right there and the people have equipment of some sort, too and I 'think' I might have seen your chickens bcuz I rode behind the houses there a couple of times but stopped going there because if I went that way my horse got all freaked out by the freeway noise...I remember seeing a really pretty paint horse that one of your neighbors had...there was more horses there, too....but in one of the backyards I remember seeing some chickens roaming, I think those were probably yours! I dont remember details but I remember how nice and neat the place looked. :) Disregard my private message it probably made no sense to you since that's not where you live and you're not the nail tech! ha!ha!ha! I could see how there could be coyotes back there in those trees. Well, I am a little relieved that they arent as close to me as I was thinking and now it makes sense why I don't hear them. I had Larkspur and Lilac confused with each other so you're further away than I was thinking. :) That's still scary to have the coyotes that close to the school and children. I still think that's probably what had my dog spooked that night, especially if there was more than one. Whatever it was he was definitely afraid of it.

Haha, yes you are correct, I meant Waltman and Lilac, sometimes my fingers type one thing when I am thinking another :) Yep I have seen people riding horses around the field. I love seeing the horses and I really enjoy seeing my neighbors horses. We figured out where the coyotes are leaving because we followed their trail of tracks.....they haven't always been there, it's like they just moved in late December. My hubby has also soon a badger a couple of times and he also things he has seen bobcat tracks in the field. He frequently walks the field in the evenings when weather permits.

Please don't be offended by me jamming my nose in but I live out by Kuna on Meridian Road! I have about 70 chickens from Ameraucanas to Welsummers! (16 breeds) We live on a small farm that my wife grew up on. We have four Alpacas and four cattle (Two Scottish Highlands). I love my B-R's, they are quite friendly! This spring I'm going to breed out some Barred Rocks, Ameraucanas, and Buff Orpingtons. What do you have in your flocks? Thanks, Mick

Hi Mick! Wow 70 chickens! That is a lot! I would love to have some Welsummers someday! If you ever breed any please let me know! I have some SLW, a RIR, and either a Golden Sex Link or Buff Orpington, I got her from someone else who said she was an Ameraucana or something like that, but I'm pretty sure that isn't what she is! I am going to get 3 chicks each of Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, Light Barhams (spelling?) and either Golden or Black Sex Links, haven't made my mind up yet. I'm limited to only 12 new additions this year as our area will be maxed out with the other 6 pullets we have. Welcome aboard!
