Susan and Becca, somehow I missed your posts... Congrats Susan!! and Becca, glad you found your broody girl and that she's ok...

Thanks for the info on worming, interesting...

Harleyguy and lilwhispers... good luck you guys!! Here in Ammon there was a huge debate about it, too... at first they were going to allow so many chickens depending on your lot size, then realized people with big lots could have like 50 chickens, which I guess they didn't want... so they ended up saying that single-family residences could have 6 hens and town-homes and places like that could have 3 hens, not sure about apartments.... Several people that live around here now have chickens, and it's fun to have people to "talk chicken", lol...

Have fun at the Norht Idaho State Fair... Delilah, take pics for us!!

Anyone going to the State Fair in Blackfoot???

Harleyguy I sent you a pm.
I will paraphrase I am also working on that same subject in Burley as well. The mayor is NOT against it, in fact he has asked me to work on getting more supporters before approching the council. We need to get all our ducks in a row so to speak before we go before the council. I showed him the flyer from 1918 that states every family should have 2 hens for each person in the family. he kinda got excited and asked me to get things together. He even brought me other cities ordinences to pull info from. One person isn't going to make the council change the law. We need as many as we can find. I have seen many "illegal" chickens running around town. There is even a pig very close to my house. You and I need to talk because this need to be addressed again.

While on this subject with in the last week or so on facebook there was a post on silliest reasons not to allow chickens within city limits and also gave a good argument to counter the excuses does anyone know where to find it please let me know.
.

I stand corrected! It was not the mayor that said he would shoot his neighbors chickens it was councilman john Cramer. He along with councilmen Mallory, and McGill where all against it. Anderson, , Hanson, and randy where all for it. So as I said I pretty much had the council split on it. The even had Kelly anthon draw up paperwork for them to review that would legalize chickens in city limits but I just couldn't muster any support from the community so I just let the issue go and the council dropped the whole thing. How long ago was it that you talked to the mayor? It was in April that I was pushing this so hard. It was in all the local papers. Jay lenkersdorfer, the owner of the weekly mailer stopped just short of calling me the son of Satan...lol

I think I talked with the mayor in may. Lenkersdorker well he uses his paper for what ever he wants people will have their opinions we just need to educated them with the facts and debunk the myths.

Deloorashens is there any way you could get a copy of your ordinence and email it to me or I could send you a SASE?

Another game changer for the city council was Gary pawson, he is a building inspector. He informedte council that hiline hatchery would not open a plant here if chickens where legal. But its been a long time since that hiline crap, I really don't think they are going to set up shop here.

Just wanted to report that our broody hen has seem to have forgotten about her nest and all is well! I think we got really lucky that she wasn't so determined. Maybe she was towards the end of it anyways!

Becca glad you found her and her nest! The whole maggot thing is a unfun sight to see. Sticks with a person...ewwww

Lice - Mites- Worms - We had some older chickens shipped in, they had a SUPER bad mite problem. I tried Zone from Zamzows and Seven with not much luck. I found some folks on here that swear by Adams flea and tick spray for dogs. That does work wonders and the chickens seem fine with it. We also worm them with Ivomec for cattle (D and B supply has it) That kills all external and internal parasites then we spray the adams on them once a week for two weeks. I will post the article that got us started using Ivomec....

I would like to avoid the Ivomec if possible since I would have to toss all the eggs for about 2 weeks. Where can I find the Adams flea and tick spray here locally? And it gets mites as well as the lice? I think I would like to give that a try first. Also thanks for posting the article, it was very informative!

Yes, just be patient whileI find it=) What is a SASE??

The thing about hiline is they have already built the hatchery are they really gonna pack up and leave??? Their employees cant go into town in the spring any way because cal stores carries chicks they dont want them bringing any disease back to the chicks.

Did hiline already build?? I thought the whole thing fell through. Where is the plant? But ya, hiline doesn't wasn't us to have chickens because of germs, or diseases that may spread to their flock.
