Pretty roo, Idaho bird, cross your fingers for the Utah thread, Birdguy had a few silkies, you might PM him, he lives here by me in the Idaho Falls area.

So nice to see more people on the thread, WELCOME all!!

I have a Blue copper Marans roo I'm going to put over my black copper pullets, but won't have any chicks until next year=(

Hope you guys in Burley are able to make some progress with changing your chicken zoning...

Nice to know there are so many breeders of nice birds in Idaho.... those of you who ship eggs, are you NPIP certified?? Or do you just not ship to states that require that?

I bought some at Town and Country Gardens, they probably have it at Sunnyside, too. It was 14.99 for a 5 pound bag (would love to find it somewhere else cheaper, so if anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears!!)

Not sure if there is a D&B Supply in your area, but I bought a huge bag, like 25 or 50 lbs but I can't remember how much it cost, I want to say around $20.00 or $30.00 dollars but I honestly can't remember. the bag is so big think it will last me a life time!

So being pretty new to the Marans scene, do the blue Marans come from the Blue Coppers and they just don't have the copper coloring? And how do you get the wheatens? I've been trying to figure this out.
Thanks.

I don't know the original origins of the colors but I am familiar with how they express themselves. The blue coppers and the black coppers have the birchen gene which expresses itself through the copper hackles, the solid blues and blacks don't, so that is the basic difference. The wheaten gene is recessive, so a bird must have two copies to express the wheaten gene in their plumage. Wheaten can hide in the black/blue and black copper/blue copper birds. I don't know if that answers your question or not. :)

Thank you the info does help a lot.
I was noticing that the wheaten roos look a lot like the black coppers. Are they the same?
And so the blues come from the blue/black coppers but just don't carry the birchen gene. Is that correct? Sorry for so many questions.

I agree, thanks for the info, the genetics of the feathering is fascinating to me!

D&B eh?? Don't think we have one around here.. darn it! I need to keep looking, too, sounds like!

Mesha--there is a Steve Regan co here in Logan, and in SLC, not sure where else, they sell 50 lb bags for ??30 bucks ish. I bought one for 24 but the price went up after and not sure exactly how much. You could see if there is one in IF?

What are you getting at Michelle's?

Interesting... I called Town and Country and they told me the stuff they carried was not food grade??? I ended up finding a 5# bag at Geisler's for $14.99, so same price as you what you paid.

Hey,

I was looking to get some and I found a 10 lb box of food grade DE on Amazon.com for 16 bucks and I think it might of had free shipping too. So if you don't mind getting it over the internet, I think that's a pretty good deal.
