Teri, I would like to thank you for your participation and support of BYC. I would like to make some statements and ask a question. If you hang around here a bit you will notice there is often a lot of debate about easter eggers and ameraucanas. You will find that there are alot of people who purchase ameraucanas from hatcheries only to find out later they are easter eggers. Some get very upset by this fact and feel belittled by the person trying to explain to them they have a mixed breed bird. Some are just plain disappointed when their birds lay a pinkish/brown egg.
Based on the Ameraucana Breeders Club and the American Poultry Association's description of ameraucanas, some of the attributes they must exhibit are a pea comb, muffs and beards, laying a blue to minty green egg, have bay eyes and white skin. They only come in the colors blue, black, white, buff, silver, wheaten, blue wheaten and brown red as stated here
http://ameraucana.org/standard.html . Based on this, I'm wondering if the ameraucanas you sell fit this classification or if they fall under "easter eggers"?
And if in fact they are easter eggers, would you consider changing your advertising to reflect their true classification?
Also, please don't take offense to labeling birds that don't fit the standards as easter eggers. Easter eggers are a very wonderful, hardy breed. They lay well, they live long and produce a variety of different plumage on their offspring. I have found them to be a good breed for beginers and experienced chicken owners.
Thanks,
