I just have to give credit where credit is due. I ordered 100 bantam chicks (75 OEGs and 25 Cornish) from IDEAL POULTRY last week and received them this week (the first week of Feb.). The order was shipped from TX on wed. and I picked it up from my post office in northwest IA at 6:30 thur. morning with an outside temp. of -11 F. At home I opened the box to find 79 OEGs and 26 Cornish with only 3 games d.o.a.. Now, 36 hrs. later, ALL 102 chicks are eating and drinking and looking awesome. (Oh ya, they're in my basement for a week or two.) These chicks were purchased at their bargain over stock price and the OEG selection of colors is absolutely astounding with some being the rarest of colors and the Cornish are half buff lace and half dark. This proves to me that IDEAL does their utmost best to satisfy their customers despite the fact that unfortunate mishaps are inevitable. I've ordered some La fleche from them also and am hoping for the same awesome results. I've ordered chicks from other hatcheries which have done a nice job also, but these are the healthiest ever, received in the coldest of conditions. It's easier to disappoint me than impress me so... Hey, they're the besI. (No, I don't work for them.) I would recommend IDEAL to everyone, in a heart beat !!! :):D

I'm glad to hear your order did so well with the cold weather. I think ordering a large number must have played a large part too. I ordered from Ideal last week, our order shipped out on Tuesday, came in Thursday (even though we are in Texas). I had ordered 10 bantams and they added 7 packing peanut males for warmth. We had a harsh cold front come in Tuesday, though not as cold as where you are, and it was 12* w/a wind chill of -1*. We lost 4 of the bantams during travel, but none of the packing peanuts. I called Ideal with the loss, they said to call back Friday in case there were anymore losses. All of the others made it through the night so they credited us for the losses. I ordered the bantams 'just for fun' so I didn't have them reship with the order I placed that's shipping out Monday. We did end up losing a packing peanut (EE) yesterday and another bantam last night. The EE surprised me because they all seemed fine when they arrived. The other little bantam was one of the 3 that still seemed travel logged. So now we only have 5 out of the 10 we ordered BUT I 100% feel like it was the weather and the fact we didn't order enough chicks.

Yep...I got some like this in my bantam shipment on Wednesday. I didn't think that they shipped LF "packing peanuts" chicks with bantams...but they are about 2x bigger than my bantams. Don't have a clue as to what they might be but I don't want them and they will go to the market (farmer's swap and trade at the SS farm store) at the end of march if I can't sell them sooner.

I just pick up my chicks from the post office, at 7:30 this morning. All seem to be doing good, but what do I know this is the first time I've raised chickens.

2 Road Island Red pullets
2 Black Australorp pullets
2 Silver Laced Wyandotte pullets
2 Golden Laced Wyandotte pullets
2 White Plymouth Rock pullets
2 Blue Cochise Bantam St run
Plus packing peanuts, Bared Rocks?
(heads marked with orange identifier)

Ideal Poultry offers a large selection of breeds, small quantities, no minimum quality, only a min order of $25, and by far the lowest shipping charges. My total order was $50. I will definitely use Ideal Poultry for any future orders.

I finally got a few pictures of our 2 orders. The first one was 10 bantams (we have 4 left, the weather was just way to cold and hard on them) and 6 packing peanuts (there were 7). The second order were 9 Turken/Naked Necks, and 5 packing peanuts that I believe are male black sex links. I really thought that all of the packing peanuts from the first order were EE, males, but now I'm not sure...

A few of the Turkens. There were 4 black, and then a mix of light colors for the other 5.

Bantam 1, clean legs

Bantam 2, clean legs, largest of the bantams, really white, white leghorn maybe?

Bantam 3, tiny

Bantam 4, teeny, tiny

Packing Peanuts, the first order (not the black sex links) are MONSTERS, not just in size and heft but a few of them are evil...there's one that super sweet...just...one...I'm hoping it was mis-sexed and turns out to be a pullet

The yellow packing peanut that seems extra fluffy to me but I'm not sure if its EE fluffy...

I'm pretty sure they were RIRs. I took mine to a farm swap... after an hour I got bored and ended up selling all 8 for $4. It wasn't much, but considering I got them for free I was happy to make anything at all.

I put an ad on Craigslist and sold them. The man is coming to pick them up this weekend for $5.00 for the five. That is cheaper than they can get them elsewhere and it helps me to get some money back...defray shipping charges. I

i ordered...

3 LF blue cochin pullets
3 buff orpington pullets
3 delaware pullets
3 rhode island red pullets
3 speckled sussex pullets

and their due to ship out the 19th and if this order is like my previous 2 from ideal they chicks will be at my PO the morning of the 20th.

Ideal called me yesterday and said the the sussex and cochin that i had put myself on the waitlist for would be able to ship the 19th so i called back today and ordered those two breeds and the others...plan on keeping 1 of each breed.

i like Ideal beacuse the have nice chickens and good customer service they ship out fast and they dont charge me an arm and leg for shipping like meyer or mcmurray would...i have ordered chicks 3 times and all three times were Ideal and i'll continue to buy from them

Ordered nine chicks today! Well, tried to order but they said they were out of one or more of the breeds I wanted. So technically they call it a "request" not an order. They said they will be contacting me as soon as they have all the chicks I want. Does anyone know how long that will probably take? I'm really excited to get my chicks! And also with only ordering nine chicks and the weather being cold should I be expecting packing peanuts? Thanks!
