I don't think the Ideals shortage is due to bad hatches.I believe that the isue is the feed stores are now receiving their Chicks, and that is what is affecting the avalibility. A large chain in my area has already recieved their chicks, and another is scheduled to receive chicks this Wednesday.

Ideal has been a fairly good hatchery….i am willing to believe them because when it gets too cold often the Roosters will become infertile for awhile and some breeds of hens will stop laying if not in a controlled environment. So if it is a bad week for the collection of eggs for a particular hatch date i can see it happening…..

I just got my email saying my chicks were sent. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to be sent to west alabama?

I had some chicks shipped from them last week. Sent out late Tuesday, arrived at our local PO at 5:45AM Thursday. I'm in MA.

Your chicks will likely be at your post office tomorrow morning. You may want to call your p.o. early in the morning, if you haven't already informed them, so they don't try to deliver them. It's always best to pick them up, rescuing them from their little cardboard prison asap.

My email came in at a little after midnight on a wed. morning and I picked them up at my p.o. at 6:30 am on thurs. in northwest Iowa.

did it actually say they were shipped or a their reminder email? reason i ask is that the tuesday before ideal shipped my chicks out i got a email saying they were shipped but on the email its said it was a reminder and in the email it told me the ship date was 2/19.


also Ideal does not ship out on tuesdays...they only ship out on mondays and wednesdays.


since your chicks will most likely actually hatch and ship out tomorrow they could be to you on thurday but could also take till friday

Here are a few of my chicks I got from Ideal. They are 5 weeks old today. I got sultans,self blue cochins,self blue silkies and one frizzle. My only worry is that my white frizzle cochin is looking more like a frazzle.

I also ordered white frizzle (bantam) Cochins. Of the 5 I ordered, 1 was normal feathered.Three were frazzled and 1 was frizzled. I gave the frazzles away, I am taking the normal to the farm swap this Sat. and I am keeping the 1 frizzled pullet which is what I really wanted and the reason I ordered 5. I figured/hoped that I would get 1 frizzled pullet and I lucked out! BTW...my frizzle is very nicely feathered and I am happy.
