Has anyone ordered the Cornish Cross from Ideal? I usually use another hatchery but thought I would try this one since the prices seem to be a little better.

I was curious if they ship well and also how is the CX stock from them?

I have. My first batch is about 5 weeks old, and then I have 8 left from my second batch that are two or three weeks old (someone bought the rest as chicks).

They all arrived healthy, and the only deaths I've had were from the stupid cat.

Ideal usually does a good job with shipping and many of their breeds are of good quality, but Ideal Cornish X broilers do not grow as fast as Whelp Hatcherys CX birds. We have a feed store that sells the Ideal birds and a farm supply store selling the Whelp birds, so I've known many people who have tried both and the results are always the same.

Assorted is what the feed stores buy. I've always seen a great variety. It just depends on what breed has an over hatch at the time of shipping. I bought some out of the variety bantams from privett at my local tsc. The whole batch looked like runts and were pretty beat up looking. They took lots of extra care. But they grew up to be gorgeous birds. Both bantam Cochin's are frizzled and the white silkie is bearded with a good sized crest which is hard to come by in hatchery birds. They are not show quality but close enough for me

Has anyone ordered the assorted chick surprise? And if so what all did ya get? Husband wrecked the car today so any driving to pick up birds is done for. For now.

I was wondering the same thing. I have seen them advertise this as their special for several weeks. They are offering pullets and not straight run.

well... I ordered it! I'm hoping to get something I like. In a week or so I'm going to order some from cackle! Why not? I'm going to sell anything I don't want on craigslist. There is not much for chicks where I am so I'm going to see how selling some chicks go.

Glad you stepped out there. When the chicks arrive, do you think they will come with an itemized list of what you got or are you going to have to figure it out on your own?
We've considered buying some of these specials and then selling the excess but we don't want to get overloaded with chicks while we look for someone that wants them. How quick do young chicks remain on Craigslist usually? (Almost sounds creepy without the context)
