Hmmm, light brahmas.... So NO cochins? Even worse! LOL I thought the one dark guy looked like a sebright, but they don't have feathered legs I thought...

Oohh didn't know he had feathered legs. Might be a cochin then. I got one little runty buff one last year that was real skinny like that. I still have her. Something is not right with her head lol she is the craziest most skittish bird ever. All my birds are always really calm and friendly because they get handled sooo much and are exposed to so many different experiances. But she still won't get within five feet of me and just acts like a crazy woman all the time lol Here she is next to the white silkie chick.

my light brahma chicks look nothing like those mine had alot of white on the back with a little black but I guess it is possible depending on the hatchery parents.. They are no longer chicks now but your best bet is to go to the ideal website and go to the bantams and check out which match then you can narrow it down. You can also check out other hatchery pictures because a couple have real pics of the chicks .Alot of chicks have a similar color pattern . They are adorable, I love little fuzzy chicks.

these chicks in my picture(avatar) are 2 from ideal poultry. left is a splash silkie and the chipmunk is a gray silkie, both a little over a week old. nice 5th toe spacing, nice feathered legs and toes the splash is vaulted, overall nice silkie chicks.Not all silkies from ideal are bad as one said. They are going to be so pretty in the yard this spring.

I have not had a good experience with Ideal. I ordered through Purely Poultry who uses Ideal to drop ship chicks. Purely Poultry are very nice people, it's just unfortunate they use Ideal. I ordered 15 chicks and all but 2 eventually died. None of the chicks were true to their breed--poor breeding--breed dilution. I won't use them or any middleman that uses them. My Pet Chicken uses McMurray's (I believe)--I understand that they are pretty good. I've got several friends who said they got nice chicks from MyPetChicken. It all boils down to "you get what you pay for". What good is it if you get a good price but then they are weak, poor quality genetically or die. This was my experience--may it was a fluke.

sorry to hear you had a bad experience, I lost a few but ideal shipped the replacements all free the very next week and all are doing great, very healthy.
Ideal has wonderful customer service. I know alot of people who order from other hatcheries and they loose chicks also. That happens even if you have a hen hatch or you incubate your own. Some chicks will not make it. Sad it happens but true and As you can see in my avatar the silkies I got from ideal a little over a week ago are true to the breed.I got a beautifully feathered cochin rooster also and He is turning into one handsome young man.My bbs cochin pullets are going to love him lol. I was going to order some from my pet chicken also but they have been sold out of the breeds i want and won't have any untill june. they have no blue cochins at all this year which is what I wanted. Mcmurray you have to buy 25 min and I didn't want that many and same with cackle unless you pay way more than I wanted for a small town order. I guess all hatcheries have pros and cons . I am going to go check out purely poultry right now as I have never heard of them. california hatchery is a good one also for small order chicks.I have not ordered from them either.

got my 25 ideal chicks this morning at about 8! 14 easter eggers, assorted cochins that turned out to be buff, blue, white, and mottled. my assorted rocks were buff, white, partridge. i also got a buff naked neck, a gold spangled hamburg, and a saipan game. one packing peanut that looks like a silver pheonix!

two were spraddle legged and one has crooked toes and the PR and hamburg are looking a little listless but i havn't lost any! ideal def. has awesome customer service, too. my emails were replied to within 24 hours!

Yah, I got my replacements today. 3 of 7 are hanging on, not sure if they're going to make it. The chicks are so very tiny, again. They were classified as large fowl, but they are as small as bantams. I'm going to hop on over to the repective breed threads to ask if this is the normal size for these breeds.

I just receievd an order in today from Cackle Hatchery. This is my first time using Cackle but so far so good. They do allow small orders also. I ordered 15 Welsummer pullets and 3 roos. All have arrived safe and alive. You are supposed to recieve extras. They did ship one extra pullet (glad it wasnt another roo). One thing i like about Cackle's website is that you can look at all the varities and watch video of what the chicks look like. They sale many varities sexed that others hatcheries only sale straight run. Time will tell how my Wellies turn out but with everything i have seen so far with Cackle i will for sure re-order from them in the future.
