Ideas on keeping predators out?

That is a really great idea and it's something I've been considering lately. I've noticed a lot of neat gadgets that are solar-powered that I can incorporate into my garden. The nice thing is, they're pretty cheap. For example, I want to light it all up with some solar powered lights, and I was thinking of using some solar pumps for the pond, too.

Red light keeps predators out. We have a red light (not a heat lamp) in our chicken coop and we do think it keeps predators out. There are some gadgets you can get that when it senses a movement it shoots out a red light.

we have been blessed with not any predators around..very happy about that..dont know if it is the dogs they here and smell around.but so far so good..miss seeing them but dont want my chickens hurt..have a light that comes on at dusk and stays on till dawn maybe this helps..good luck everyone with urs..

Could always get some red solar lights. Although anything like that I have my doubts about, wild animals are normally scared of new things but after a while they get used to them. We used to hunt at night with red spotlights so I know it doesn't scare everything off... the predators around here have grown accustomed to our presence. There is very little that scares them away, if anything. We get bears that come right up on our porch and look into our sliding glass door.

I would love to get a vulturine guinea to patrol the area. Those things look so menacing! I know they're expensive and need extra care, but I guess I'm too spoiled to settle for a regular guinea after seeing one of those.

You could get a dog! We have a great pyreneese and she is an amazing protector. Both our newfoundland and our pyrenees have both scared off numorous coyotes and foxes, and a bear!!!!!!

I have herd donkeys and lamnas both protect sheep so maybe they would work for chickens too??? There are also devices that shoot water out at motion but you might get soaked also!!!!!!!
