Identify This Snake!! [pics]

Garter snakes in Massachusetts are thin black things with a stripe. The head is thin like the body. They look nothing like this. I wouldn't mess with it.

Harmless Wandering Garter Snake, useful to have around. But keep in mind that even non-venomous snakes can bite and cause problems.
 
It is a garter or ribbon snake as they are sometimes called. non-venomous, feisty, will bite is startled or messed with but nothing major if you clean the bite well and keep a good anitbiotic ointment on it...hurts like the dickens but that is about it. Not a threat to you or the chickens.

I have been bitten by them more times than I can count while re-potting boston ferns back in Florida. They love hiding in those things. *sigh*
