Identify This Snake!! [pics]

Another interesting fact is that in North America, all af our vipers have the cats eye pupil. If the pupil is round, your safe, if it has the same shape as a cats eye, it is a viper.
Good luck on getting close enough to tell what shape it is.
Probably by the time you can see clearly enough, you could just as easily see your reaction to the bite and know wether or not it was venomous.

You don't think it might be a garter snake, do you?

I was walking through our hay pasture that my husband had just baled, and almost stepped on a 3-4 foot long Rat Snake. I was pretty positive it was just a rat snake, but it coiled up, put it's head up high, turned right at me, and started rattling it's tail! Sure did scare and confuse me for a minute there.

Here's a pic of the pretty guy:

I LOVE snakes. Weird thing is that I have a major, major, very serious phobia of the disuisting insects that start with the letter "R" and it's one syllabol and ends with a "H" I can't say, hear, read or type even the word so it's that bad!! I totally panic and break down, can't breath, get faint and have panic attacks if I see one. But I'm okay with snakes and spiders... weird huh?!

I would say it is probably poisinous The head is wide and diamond shaped. (for the poison glands) Though some snakes fake it. Garter snakes are black with a yellow stripe and their head is the same size as the body. It just kinda tapers off into a mouth. Don't know what it is but I thought I would throw my two cents in!
Good luck with indentification
I luv snakes!

as has been mentioned numerous times.....not all garters look like that! This snake does NOT appear to have a diamond shaped head....its is something in the corner of the tub making it appear that way.
